Looking at my CT data for purchases last year, I need to scale back. I would like to keep 2010 purchases under $8k (tall order as I already spent enough on Rivers-Marie, Betz, and a few others). Still, an interesting topic and we can then look back in a year’s time to see whether we succeeded in keeping our goal.
I will spend my money on 08 Oregon pinots and 07 Cali cabs. The total spent will be< half on my 09 expenditures. Having already spent far to much in 09 on 08 Oregons futures and releases, it does make it a bit easier not to spend so much.
I’m in the $1-$5k camp and I am sticking to it. It should be easier for me since the next wave of releases for California might not be as heralded as their 07 counterparts.
Ugggh! I will probably spend $5K+. Alsace, Burgundy, Rhone and Bordeaux will make up the bulk but, I have been pissing away a bunch of money trying to figure out these new Cali Pinot producers.
Last year I cut purchases down about 25% from 2008. THis year, I’ll TRY to do that again. Although this January is the most I’ve ever spent in a January. THANKS CT for having that info ready!!!
It is only the 26th of January and I have two tastings this weekend. So far I am below last January by 25% (21 bottles vs. 30 bottles) and the average is down from $46/btl to $41/btl (I guess less Cab this month). The month is not over yet but the goal is to decrease. Please tell all mailing lists to freeze for 120 days!!!
I WILL spend less this year on wine. Just blew a chunk of the 2010 budget on a cellar. At least the wine we purchase will all have a place in the house now.
I’m finding this year to be both a blessing and a curse. Because so many folks are buying less (or none) of their mailing list allocations, I’m suddenly finally getting allocations from lists where I’ve been waiting. While thrilled about that, it’s a real b&#ch to control my budget under this circumstance. And of course I’ve completely caved to the psychology of “I have to buy what I’m offered in order to stay on the list and get offered the even better stuff next round”. So I’m probably headed toward spending more this year than last, sadly.
