Customer service is a horror show, btw.
Update on my Wine Guardian for anyone considering one of these units. Unit had almost run out of coolant and was running full time but only getting down to 61 degrees. The HVAC guys added dye to the system to track down where the leak was. After a week, no issues internally, but dye showed up right at the service valve. They think it was bent slightly at the factory, in shipping or possibly during installation and a small crack had been slowly leaking the last 4.5 years. Quick replacement of the valve and a coolant recharge and I appear to be back in business.
23 years and counting. ![]()
I went through two Breezier 4500WKE units, each lasting about 5 five years. Got a Cellarpro 4200 about 8 months ago. Running like a charm. I really liked that I could use a Nest thermostat with it (It was a little extra for the wiring harness).
Vinotemp, 26 years…has never needed any maintenance.
Eurocave 360 bottle now at 12 years, no issues. Only maintenance is cleaning.
I have two Eurocave 260’s (actually hold about 175 bottles with shelves) that are 19 years old. I love them!
I am also afraid of jinxing myself…
My cellarpro 1800 broke down a month ago after 2.5 years. CellerPro sent me a refurnished replacement unit. It didn’t work right out from the box since day 1. It’s has a short cycling issue I suspect. I am trying to explain this to the Cellarpro tech and they cannot answer the question and now they stop replying my email. I asked them to send the tech over to inspect the replacement unit and got no response. Did you have the same experience with them? Please advise.
My Heatcraft commercial split system: could have repaired and replaced some components of the outside compressor at 16-17 years of age, but opted to replace it instead. Replaced the evaporator blower last year at 20 years of age due to some refrigerant leakage spots.
Chart for some comparisons
lasted another summer (knock on wood)
Bought a used Vinotemp/Breezaire 24 years ago. It just died after running about six month per year.
My CellarPro 3200 VSi has been a complete disappointment. In my opinion, their customer service is terrible. I ended up shipping the unit back to the factory for repair under warranty. Shipping was very costly. They replaced the coil and the compressor. Now, just over three years from reinstalling the refurbished unit, the fan does not come on when the compressor cycles, resulting in an HA2 error code. Very frustrating. I would like to try another brand; however, the opening in the cellar wall is sized to fit the CellarPro unit. So a brand change would also require a small remodeling project.
I was gifted a used wine fridge about 15 - 20 years ago. Holds 36 bottles (inconveniently, alternate facing in and out). Stays cold. Just saw this thread and looked at the brand name. Marvel, seems appropriate.
We have two GE 55 bottle built in wine coolers. One is 11 years old, the other 8. No problems except the oversize bottles like Turley do not fit.
I purchased a Transtherm scratch and dent/shipping issue cellar circa 2003 that ran like a champ until mid 2024. It was so quiet and dependable that I’d spend too much to repair it if I could find someone to work on it.
I’ve had a few free standing cabinets with slide-in Vinotemp coolers that seemed to last about 7 years or so.
A Cellar Pro mini-split unit for a walk-in cellar purchased in 2012 lasted until about 2023.
