How is Robert Parker doing these days?

Since Bob retired he seems to be completely disappeared from the scene. How is he doing these days? He had some health issues as we all know. Is he still interested in what is going on in the wine world? Is he still member of a tasting group as he was while being active as a critic? Does he still enjoy a glas of wine?

If someone is in touch with him it would be nice to get some news. And greetings to Mr. Parker with the best wishes.

Why did he disappear?

It’s generally referred to as retirement.

He is doing very well. Travelling with his lovely wife, Pat, and enjoying his retirement. Sharp, funny and kind as ever.

isn’t he still doing his long wine lunches locally over peking duck?

He is still really enjoying wine regularly and also explores it during his travels. As always, he enjoys good food, too.

Nice to hear he is doing fine. I raise my glas for good health to everyone here on this board.

Sounds like an ideal retirement.
I will be retiring at the end of the year. Perhaps I should emulate Bob. I suggested that lifestyle to my doctor, and he put me under house arrest.

Love being retired. Going to the golf course in the morning.

Hope that it works out for you as well.

Yep, that’s my retirement in a nut shell, along with great wine in the evening and travel to wine regions.

His kindness must be highly selective. After all, he is basically responsible for the birth of this BB.

I think it is time that he becomes an official winebeserker!

Don’t hold your breath, Robert.

I would find it great to have the voice of him here on this board.

I’ve never met the man, but I’ve heard that, in person, he can be quite charming and warm. With regard to his board presence, you have to keep a couple of things in mind. First, he did turn out to have a thin skin. Second, the internet has a tendency to cause us to drop our normal restraints of courtesy (to speak somewhat euphemistically). Third, prior to the internet, when he was a reviewer, the constraints of the genre meant that he couldn’t publically take seriously his position as PREMIER WINE CRITIC except to a limited extent in interviews. On the internet, it became clearer that he didn’t take opposition kindly (or maybe that was just a late career transformation). Take those things together and you will have a very different persona than the one you might encounter in person(a).

Said another way, he gave us the gift that is Wine Berserkers.
