Hopefully there is More of the Good Old Stuff - Brunswick, Maine

I can bring either or both. My dessert wines are to be enjoyed by friends, I’ll have a sip of whatever is opened, not a glass.

I won’t ever turn down more Yquem!

Both vintages will be there, along with the Tokaji.

Dan, my wife Jane and I would like to attend.

Have plenty of options for contributions.

I’m so happy that so many board members want to come and share wine.

Right now, the board contingent is essentially full:

Jud Reis
+1
Michael Chang
Eileen Chang
Nick Christie
David Waller
+1
Ryan Meyer
Karl K
Jane K

Not yet confirmed, but local board member and wife, and I am counting them as in:
Mark Mickalide
Tinker Mickalide

That’s 12.

I have 7 others, mostly local, confirmed:
Dan Kravitz
Eileen McKeon-LaLiberte
Peter McKeon
Chuck Christman
Bonnie Skillins
Sabrina Reming
Hugh Reming

I have two other locals penciled in, which would put us at 21.

Please let me know if you want to attend, there could be cancellations and the restaurant seats 25. That could be a little crowded, I prefer to keep it closer to 20, but it’s good to be flexible.

It doesn’t look like we will have a spring event, but it’s not out of the question, I will update in a while.

Thank you all!

Dan Kravitz

It’s your event, Dan, but I do recommend having a 20-21 range with a waitlist :).

Knowing the space, and the dynamic about wanting to go back and forth between two tables of 10, I think going full 24 would be a noticeable jump from our 18 last Fall. I loved the intimacy we managed on that Saturday with the Old Stuff.

We are at 19 - 21 and it is now wait-list. If Francois Audouze asks to come at the last minute, I’d make an exception, but I agree with you. 20 is perfect for that space.

FYI, lodging is relatively scarce in Brunswick on the event weekend (there are some Best Western/Comfort Inn-type places available). We ended up booking a place in Portland for Friday-Sunday and will Uber to/from the Brunswick gathering on Saturday.

David,

Thanks for the update, but I’m a little surprised.
I have no idea why the local good places are booked on that weekend, but they are!
My apologies to the people who are coming from away. But there are chain hotels still available.
I’ve had friends stay at the Day’s Inn in Brunswick, quite acceptable. Or a little closer on the way to Portland, Day’s Inn and Traveler Inn should be OK.
I can arrange the local taxi service back to Portland, would be quicker than Lyft or Uber.

Sorry about that. I have no idea why this is a weekend where the good local places are booked, but nobody will have to sleep under the bridge.

No problem Dan, we’ve been meaning to explore Portland so this is a good opportunity. Just wanted folks to know since it is still very far out and pickings are slim. A taxi at the end of the night would be great! Happy to share the taxi back to Portland with others as well.

Yeah we ended up just booking the traveler, seems close enough to the restaurant.

Brunswick Taxi would be faster than Uber or Lyft, I’ll alert them for anybody who is going to Portland.

I’ll be heading back to Portland so happy to share a taxi if it’s convenient for folks. I’ll have to leave right at 10 though to relieve the sitter so I’m also happy to jump in a separate taxi / Uber if others want to hang out at the restaurant a bit longer.

At last year’s event, we started to congregate just after 4, started pulling corks about 5, some food appeared soon after that. We were seated and eating just after 6, people started leaving just after 9.

I thought the time frame worked well. If anybody has other thoughts, happy to hear them.

Last time, with all the wines from my cellar, I put together pairings. If anybody wants to let us know what they are bringing or sending, we can try to put some pairings together, but I have no problem with just everything being surprising (but as announced, I have two vintages of Yquem and a 60 year old Tokaji).

If anybody wants to send wine ahead to sit for a while, feel free to PM me. Last year I brought all of the wines to the restaurant the day before the tasting.

I might send some of the older wines on ahead before the event; I’ll pm you as it gets closer.

That’s fine, thank you. By a month before the event shipping weather should be good.

I’m new to the hobby so I sadly don’t have much cool old stuff to contribute but I’m happy to bring any of my older bottles that might be fun or helpful for pairing. Mi cellar es su cellar.

Haven’t decided yet what to bring along but expect to ship in advance.

For your great grandkids?
