Hopefully there is More of the Good Old Stuff - Brunswick, Maine

Dan- May and June are out for me, but will book a fall date if you land one with the rest of the group. Can I bring my better half?

I can now say May & June are both out…but can probably make anything in October/November work.

Jud, it’s been some years since we shared a glass of wine with Doug S. & his wife…but hopefully you & your other half will be here for this. It will be nice to see you again.

Any update? Oct 25 looking best for us.

Of course you can bring the better half. I’ve had two requests for 11/1 and one for 10/18, will try to get this done week after next when I’m back home.

Whoops, just back and saw I never sent my first answer.

I’ll try to fix the date tomorrow, I think the 25th will work.

Best,

Dan

A vote here for Nov. 1 as most ideal, though the 25th may work too.

Yeah for us really the 25th is the only date that works, 11/1 is the day after Halloween for anyone with young kids.

Give people a choice and they will give you a lot of different answers.

I’ve had almost equal interest in 10/18, 10/25 and 11/1.

Let’s settle on 10/25.

Everybody please get back to me and confirm, and I’ll start planning.

Everybody to bring / send whatever they want. There is no theme, except:
Please bring wines with bottle age, especially those that may be too old; no time like the present!
I request that nobody bring more than 2 bottles per person, to minimize waste. My local friends won’t be bringing their Cotes du Rhones or KJ Chardonnays, but I will bring about a bottle a person for me, Eileen and the locals.
Room for at least 10 board members (including +1s), possibly up to 12.

My thanks to everybody. It warms my heart to share fine old wine near by home with board members.

We’re down for 10/25.

I’ll bring some Bordeaux, Rhone, Burgundy and Champagne with age.

My wife is out of town for a conference that weekend but I’m in if one of our babysitters is available. Do you have a ballpark start / end time in mind so I can let the sitter know approximately when we’ll need them?

How was France?

Hi Ryan,

We congregate around 4, start pulling corks by 5, wrap up by 10.

Here are links to my France trip:

Dan - my wife and I are confirmed. Looking forward to it!

So glad Michael & Eileen Chang can come to this one! I’m in as well, of course.

And Clemens, you & JP are coming too :kissing_heart: @David_W1 If we can make it all the way up there, you can too.

We were on the fence, as we often spend October’s last weekend camping and mountain biking, but since @Nick_Christie said so, we will join. @Dan_Kravitz count me and a +1 in. We’ll need some more ancient sweet wines; I’ll see if I can find something interesting in that department.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time in Lyon.

Childcare is covered so I’m in for 10/25 if there’s space for me. Can’t wait!

I have stopped drinking dessert wines, occasions like this are when I will open them.
I can offer:
1988 Dizzy Dub
1989 Grans Fassian Leiwener Klostergarten Eiswein (this may be 375ml, gotta check)
1999 Jean-Marie ā€œTheā€ Haag, Gewurz Zinnkoepfle SGN
1964 Eitels &c BA
1964 Monimpex Tokaji Aszu 5-putted (huge green)
1989 Max Grun Herr TBA
2001 Yquem
1988 Yquem 375ml

Happy to bring what strikes your and the group’s fancy.

Obviously the 01 Yquem is one of the best versions of that wine ever made so it’d be fun to try, I’d also like to try that tokaji.

I’m planning to bring 1993 Rousseau Cazetiers, 1990 Dom, and several bottles of bdx and rhone from the 70s that may or may not be sound, I guess we’ll find out!

I’m guessing there will be decanters there?

I will bring them both.

We will have decanters; will probably have to rinse and reuse some of them.

Your contributions sound great. FWIW I can bring 1975 Lanessan, I’ve had half a dozen bottles over the past five years, every one has been in perfect shape. It ain’t a First Growth but a really good bottle of ā€˜mature claret’.

Yeah I have to look and see what exact bottles there are but I believe I have a 75 cantenac brown and 76 pichon lalande.

I’ve only had the 88 Yquem once, but it was dazzling and a worthy competitor to the 01. (from the peanut gallery)

I think the 88 is drinking better now for sure, but the 01 has far more potential. 01 may be the best Yquem ever made; I’ve had some of the legendary ones from the 20s and they are definitely good but 01 has so much more concentration. Have this put away in mag.
