Our annual RIESLING offer of the singular wines from HOFGUT FALKENSTEIN!
2024 delivered uber-classic and filigreed wines ala 2021 as the year was cool and rainy. While production is tiny at just 20% of normal, and some fuders were not even made, what was made is pristine and wines you want in your cellar, as there are not many of them available. See the Mosel Fine Wines guide details and notes on the vintage at Falkenstein, and for each wine below.
Falkenstein is in the coolest part of the Mosel - the Saar! As I have said previously, the best Riesling for the money in the world comes from there, and it is from Hofgut Falkenstein. These wines are mind-bogglingly complex, cerebral, delicious, and most importantly budget-friendly wines!
We have one new (to us) wine in the mix, while several are missing as they were not made. There should not be too many limiters on the allocations either as our importer got a balanced set of wines. Last year the Fuder 22 was super limited and we had to dole them out by the bottle! I am told that is not the case this year so make sure to jump on those again this year. The popularity of the Falkenstein wines continues to grow and is for sure is at its highest that I have ever seen. I get more inquiries on these wines than any other riesling. While we are still early days on pricing with Falkenstein, prices were held less tariffs this year, and I still see them able to take a price increase each year until the point where they really get noticed and prices take off - but thankfully we are not there just yet. The great thing is that one bottle of Keller GG is about the cost of 10 bottles of Falkenstein. These wines are so underpriced for the quality in the bottle, making them by far one of the best bargains available from any wine region!
So, without further ado, I am pleased and honored to offer the 2024 Hofgut Falkenstein wines again for the 7th vintage in a row.
Mosel Fine Wines Issue #76
Johannes and Erich Weber were, as usual, all smiles when talking about 2024, despite the difficulties of the vintage: "One of the most challenging factors of the 2024 vintage was the three nights of frost on April 22, 23, and 24. However, not all the vines were affected, notably in the Krettnacher Altenberg, a large part of the Niedermenniger Herrenberg and the Euchariusberg. Well, for the vineyards that were most affected, everything was brown for the following four weeks. In a way, we had to preserve the desire to continue working in all our vineyards, in the hope that the vines would recover and produce a second shoot. The precipitations were quite heavy throughout the year, and we had about twice as much rain as in the last 30 years. We started our harvest as usual, around September 10-15, and brought in beautiful, clean grapes. Oechsle levels were moderate, ranging from 78 to 86. Some botrytis appeared around the end of the harvest, and we had to be careful, but it was not a big issue. The cellar work was particularly easy. We really love the 2024s, as they combine a unique lightness, freshness, and rich extract. They also have particularly low pH levels.”
Hofgut Falkenstein was able to produce a large portion of its wines in all categories. However, it adapted its portfolio due to slightly lower yields (around 20%), and some wines were not produced, such as the cuvées Pet Nat Landwein der Saar, the Egon, Herbert, Ternes, Arthuro, Schorsch, and Mammen. The dry, off-dry, and fruity-styled wines are composed of Kabinett and Spätlese.
The Webers produced a remarkable collection of wines in 2024, with even more density and grip than usual, thanks to lower yields that resulted in even higher dry extracts. The Pet Nat is, as usual, an excellent success. The dry Kabinetts are, also as usual, excellent, but in a very racy style. The dry Spätlese wines are even more interesting in this respect and more balanced, even if they remain slender and austere in style. In the off-dry series, the Meyer Nepal is splendid and great success. As for the fruity-styled wines, they are, dare we say here also as usual, remarkable for their balance and uniqueness. This year, the Kabinett Gisela and Mia are sumptuous, as are the two Spätlese wines. Despite the difficulties of the vintage, Hofgut Falkenstein has drawn the quintessence of the year and their work, particularly in the vineyards, has been highly rewarded.

Of the below wines the AP11 Meyer Nepal, AP22 Mia, and AP 7 Altenberg will be the wines most people will aim for, so keep that in mind and order what you want.
The offering to us this year for the 2024s is the same as the last 2 years. Like the last 2 years, I will collect your order requests and then place an order with our importer. We will then receive our allocation, and I will allocate as needed. I will allocate where needed based on buying history of these wines (and overall support of our business if need be). Don’t hold back, if you want a case each, say so. If you want 4 cases of on the AP 11, say so. Demand has never been higher for these wines, so I can’t guarantee we get everything but we will certainly do our best. Remember, I want to sell every single bottle I can of these, so let’s get at it – fire away!
Please reply with your order request by 1PM MONDAY August 26th!

Comes from 60-70-year-old vines. It displays an elegant and refined nose made of white flowers, almond cream, lime tree, lime, orange blossom, thyme, and smoke. From 50-60-year-old vines in the Enkers part of the vineyard. It shows a finely aromatic and attractive nose of yellow peach, greengage, herbs, thyme, mint, and almond. There is a touch of tartness in need of integration before true pleasure. This is an aromatic, yet racy Riesling. 2029-2044

The wine is delicately juicy and refined on the palate and leaves a juicy and finely aromatic finish. This is a great, attractive Kabinett. 2032-2044

The Non-Vintage Pet Nat with Los Nr. 23-25 comes from Weissburgunder harvested in 2024 in the Niedermenniger Herrenberg and was fermented in cask before completing its fermentation in bottle and being released without disgorgement. It offers a beautifully aromatic and refined nose of light brioche, fine spices, greengage, white almond, flowers, and lime. The bubbles are already well integrated on the palate and the wine proves light yet intense, zesty, and even taut in the long and pure finish. 2026-2029.
