I had the opportunity to sit down with Jasmine Hirsch two days ago to taste the new vintages. While all were very good, the absolute sleeper was the 2007 Cuvee Bohan-Dillon Pinot Noir. The bouquet just about jumped out of the glass. The wine is charming and beautifully balanced with sweet cherry and strawberry notes and finely etched finish. The best news is that the retail price should be somewhere around $30 a bottle. I highly recommend it if you can find it.
Lots of people do, most notably Ted Lemon for Littorai, Patz and Hall and Peay.
I did’t know about Patz & Hall sourcing from Hirsch- what do they get? Littorai, Siduri, Williams Selyem and Failla are the current folks with contracts as I understood it (for Pinot). Peay might be the only one I know getting Chardonnay any more, or last least designating it. In the past Kistler and others have gotten fruit from there (Scherrer comes to mind, Walter Hansel).
I am not as enthusiastic about the Bohan as you, but I see '07 as a marked improvement over the '06, which was light and a bit thin. I really enjoyed the “main” wines from Hirsch a lot more- the Pinot and Chardonnay.
Tasted the 2013 Williams Selyem Hirsch recently and it was fabulous. I was saddened when I stopped by the tasting room on Westside Road and Greg let me know that Hirsch wasn’t renewing the contract with Williams Selyem, as in addition to the SVD they put some Hirsch in the Sonoma Coast bottling.
