Can anyone tell me the oldest vintage of La Souteronne? I’d really love to try it with some age on it!
Curious to hear from others on this one. I love Herve’s wines, they are so fresh and transparent, but with such low (and occasionally no) sulfur, I wonder how long they go.
CT lists 2001. I just received some 2019. Love this wine. The Syrahs have been hit and miss for me.
La Souteronne is so tasty and fresh.
garagiste occasionally has bottles that are up to a decade old, and occasionally ive seen them on restaurant lists with 5+ years on them. The pricing on them is still really fair so the best option is buy a bunch and cellar!
I drank some Souhaut vintages from the late 90s (domaine started in early 90s), but can’t remember which bottling. This was over 20 years ago, and the wines were already fragile upon release! Wouldn’t have high expectations unless they came directly from the Souhaut cellars.
The question as to age was in reference to the Gamay-Souteronne bottling. Are you confident you had a 90s? The Syrahs definitely go back to the 90s.
No!
I’ve only had a young example - served blind - but I thought it was varietally correct/obvious.
There is a bottle of his syrah on my ‘drink now’ rack, that I’m trying to find a suitable time to share…with a family member who is sulfite sensistive or with Rhone enthusiasts who might not be offended by a blind syrah VdF once they see the back label / address?
Last year I ordered a bottle of Syrah at Chez L’Ami Jean. They wouldn’t serve it to me because of spoilage issues. Then they removed it from the list.
