Hello all,
I am planning a trip to Istria in Croatia and was thinking of spending 2-3 days in the Collio as it seems very close.
It will be a family trip so a few kids will participate. Do you have any suggestions for wineries to visit, restaurants to eat, places to stay, or other activities? I would greatly appreciate it. The trip is in mid-August so I am hoping some wineries will be open.
Right now I was thinking about the following:
Vodopivec
Edi Kante
Zidarich
Borgo del Tiglio
Movia
Gravner
Damijan
Thank you in advance.
Cristian
Don’t miss Ronco del Gelso or Ronco di Cialla.
We stayed a few years ago at the inn that Livio Felluga runs, right across from their winery in Brezzano di Cormons, and found the restuarant and garden quite nice and the rooms comfortbale, but it was a very hot night and the AC did not work great. Pretty convenient to the winemakers in Gorizia, and I found the Radikons quite hospitable and very proud (and deservingly so) of their cellar). and would efinitely add to your list… You’ve got quite a geographic dispersion in the wineries you mention, but I recall that Radikon and Damijan are on the same road just outside of Gorizia
Try Fiegl, ask for Martin. Exceptional people, exceptional place, exceptional wines
You’ll be really close to Carso, which I found really interesting. Very distinctive wines and soil.
If I’ve got my region right, I’d add Zuani to the list. Ageworthy and unwhacky.
Almost forgot: Dario Raccaro, Cormons. Insane Malvasia.
If you want a great local table, go to Ristorante Vogric in San Floriano del Collio, just north of Gorizia. Wonderful outdoor patio.
And a local winery that is just down the street and worth visiting is Humar www.humar.it
Thank you very much for the recommendations!
I am looking forward to the trip.
