Help! Sunday Brunch/Dinner in Brooklyn?

I will be with my parents on Sunday walking around Brooklyn. We’ll be going to the Old Stone House, Green Wood Cemetery, Prospect Park, and Fort Greene Park, checking out a bunch of monuments dad wants to see. Thinking lunch will be in the Prospect Park area around the Library/Museum/Grand Army Plaza or Park Slope, specifically around Byrne Park/4th Ave.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Brent, not too far in the Slope is Vinnys, Smith and Union.

Italian cafeteria style. Always fresh and delish.

That would be my choice.

Isn’t Applewood near there? Though I don’t know if they do lunch.

Hmm…

Smith & Union shows up on my Google map in Carroll Gardens. We won’t be going west of 4th Ave.

Applewood is definitely more in my grid but is dinner only. Drats.

Looks like I’m in for an adventure!

Forget lunch — go to Jacques Torres chocolate “restaurant.”

But if you want some food - around the corner is Grimaldi’s Pizza.

Ted,

Thanks, but not remotely close to where we’ll be. Turns out Dad had to cancel, but we may end up doing this on Sunday so now it looks like I might be looking for a dinner rec instead! Some of the previous recs are now back on the table.

Brent - my daughter lives in Brooklyn. I am not all that familiar with the neighborhoods but I knew DUMBO wasn’t where you would be.
But - if you in the area of this restaurant: http://www.aldilatrattoria.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; – I recommend it. We have had some great meals there.

Brent - I lived over what is now Al Di La back in the 1990s. It was a pizza joint then and the area wasnt so great. Now it’s all yuppie and much nicer. Down the street from them is one of the pioneer restaurants - 200 Fifth or something like that. They do their own smoking and curing and the meats are pretty decent.

Tempo recently closed. It was in the place that used to be a pork store and then was a restaurant known as Cucina, which was the first “high end” restaurant in the area.

There’s a little place called Cheryl’s across from the Library on Underhill. It’s a very good lunch spot - she’s a fairly adventurous cook. And she makes pretty good cookies.

But I’m in the area. I live in Windsor Terrace. Let me know if you guys want to come over. I just made some pork that’s going to be pulled pork tomorrow when I finish.

Franny’s on Flatbush Ave.

It’s an upscale bar/restaurant that’s known for it’s pizza. Yeah Yeah. I know. But it’s good. If it’s nice out, you can sit in the rear patio.

Franny’s is only open for dinner. Some lunch spots on 7th ave and 3rd Barrio (mexican). Sette, it is across from Miracle Grill, also on 3rd street and 7th ave. Other places but not too fancy are, Scalino (so so), Brooklyn fish camp on 5th ave, AOC, on 5th as well. You can also pick up fantastic sandwiches at Russo’s on 7th ave between 10th and 11th street and take them to the park for a picnic.

Enjoy

Mike
