Help Me Choose: 1964 Charles Krug, 1968 Souverain, 1968 Robert Mondavi

I have the opportunity to select one of these Napa Valley Cabernets for my cellar (at no cost to me). Provenance is impeccable.

Souverain is “Napa Valley” - Krug is “Vintage Selection” - Mondavi is “Unfined.”

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Can’t speak to the Krug or Mondavi, but the 1968 Souverain is excellent! Think it would give a 1968 Louis Martini Mountain Cab a run for its money . . .

I’d go with the Souverain…from what I’ve heard, an amazing wine. 95pts Gilman. Would love to try one myself…since I’m a huge Souv fan!

Nick - these wines are all from the same cellar as the 1966 Martini I brought to your Louis Martini tasting…

I chose the Souverain - it looks great in my cellar.

What do you think of the younger ones Brian? Suggested years? Age worthy? Have only tasted aged Souverain, 68, 69, etc.

Nick - do you think the “younger” Souverains are likely to have any similarity to this 1968? This is a Napa Valley wine, and for many years (I believe) now, the winery has been an Alexander Valley vineyard/winery operation.

1968 is my (and my wife’s) birth year and I’ve always believed it would be next to impossible to find an age-worthy wine from that vintage. I’m all ears on what you think of the '68 Souverain…
