Looking at ONE of these off a list. If a 750, then will also get a 375 of a red…if the Vilmart 1.5, then that’s it!
Vilmart, ‘Grand Cellier d’Or’, 1er Cru ‘06 Magnum $283
Ulysse Collin, ‘Les Maillons’, Vallée de la Marne, Extra Brut NV [cuvée ’17] $103
Roses de Jeanne, Côte de Val Vilaine, Côte de Bars [cuvée ’19] $98
Flavien Nowack, ‘La Tuilerie’, Vallée de la Marne, Extra Brut ‘16 $98
Buzz, I like Nowack Tuilerie. Have had it, there is a richness about it I enjoy, and that might serve you well (depending on the drinkers). The price on that is really good, too. And, the Vilmart, but that seems way marked up.
I like Maillons better than the Vilaine but hard to go wrong in either direction. And while the Vilmart is nice, you could do a bottle of the other three for not much more money and try them all.
If you do not mind me asking, is the list in the USA or abroad? Just really curious and will not ask any further specifics than that. Would also go for the Collin.
Thanks, that is crazy restaurant pricing. Bought my '17 Maillons at $109 retail and that retailer usually has fair prices. Not the cheapest, but fair. Bought a lot of my Ulysse Collin from them but sadly they said the 2017 was their last allocation as the distributor told them ALL U-C wines in CA will now go to only restaurants. Bummer.
I had my first bottle of Nowack about a month ago. It was very well done, and well worth trying. I’ve had the good fortune of a pair of Collin bottles recently, and would be fine either way. Though I would probably choose the Collin here as it seems more likely to escalate in price suddenly than the Nowack does. I paid $60 retail for the bottle of Tuilerie we drank, so $98 is a fair price for sure, though not a crazy deal.
