6 capsules?
Yes
My sleep was fantastic, although my recovery index was trashed and my heart rate was a bit elevated, I felt fantastic this am though.
Whatâs you preload routine? One-two capsules per day?
2 capsules a day for a week before a major weekend event, for a single wine evening maybe 3 days.
Thank you!
Much of this conversation is oriented toward the short-term, experiential side-effects of wine consumption, e.g., headache, sleep pattern, heart rate, brain fog. It seems that some of the supplements and regimes (e.g., pre-hydration) discussed mitigate these side-effects. Maybe I missed it, but Iâm not seeing much here as to whether these products and regimes have a positive effect on physiologyâblood chemistry, liver function, etc. Iâm wondering whether these supplements and regimes are truly beneficial or do they actually make things worse by masking the warning signs of lasting harm to the body? Can anyone speak to this?
Thereâs not a lot of long term clinical data on a lot of these supplements, except for DHM, which has some hepatoprotective effects. That being said, the mechanism of action of the probiotic products in lowering acetaldehyde and alcohol are generally beneficial and would promote long term health.
I have also been wondering about needing to take it regularly Myrkl and Zbiotics (though Zbiotics is too expensive to do that and should rethink how they market) in order to really achieve the benefit. Admittedly, I might have gone a bit hard on Saturday evening for a wedding and took both beforehand and then DHM afterwards. I probably didnât stay SUPER hydrated, butâŚaside from total exhaustion of having kids wake me the next morning and not sleeping much or well, I wasnât exactly hung over. I didnât really have a headache or typical hangover symptoms. So, anecdotally, they did help even with both taken about 30-60 mins before the evening got started.
Thank you! As a follow-up, much of the conversation seems oriented toward a pre-planned âbig nightâ of drinking. How might one differently align these products and practices toward lower-level everyday drinking?
I donât know how other people use the supplements for everyday drinking. I donât drink very often and if I were to only have a glass or two of wine I wouldnât have ill effects anyways.
I think @MChang (sorry to paraphrase his feelings, so he should comment if Iâm way off) probably falls in the realm of moderate daily drinking of 1-2 drinks a day likely isnât of much clinical significance unless you are female and are worried about the increased risk for breast cancer. Iâd say I fall into the same category of belief based on the data. The absolute risk is minimal for the other cancers. Separate from that, I think the only other consideration is how close to bed you have your last drink. It should be several hours before to preserve good sleep quality. I think taking Myrkl daily probably would have a beneficial effect but that study will never be done. I also donât know that itâs necessary.
Iâm personally not a strong believer in using probiotics as much as prebiotics and worry a bit about what happens when you coax your microbiome towards a particular strain of bacteria or yeast that doesnât match the food that you provide to it. I think it makes more sense to promote a healthy microbiome based on the diet one eats. I wonder what possible negative impacts the daily microbiome hacking could have. Probably not a lot because the probiotics that arenât fed just die off most likely. I do think it is super interesting to introduce Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus coagulans that are genetically modified to digest alcohol. I wonder if you take them enough if you create a long term tolerance to increased alcohol consumption, which leaves a lot to ponder. Most of these strains are present in the small intestine and thatâs where most of alcohol is absorbed. Itâs super fascinating to think about what might happen from long term supplementation with myrkl or zbiotics.
I drink 0 drinks a day on average; I probably have 3-4 drinking days in a month at the most and 1 mostly higher consumption event, sometimes multi-day, with maybe 1-2 other days with a couple drinks. There are many months where I wonât drink at all.
So most of my regimen is intended to help with larger events. Others may have other regimens that are better for daily drinking, I donât do it, so donât really have anything planned for it. I wonât use supplements unless Iâm going to be drinking quite a bit of wine because 1-2 drinks with dinner doesnât affect my sleep/biometrics.
Anecdotally you seem to buy an incredible amount of wine for someone who drinks that frequently
Perhaps a credit to you sharing your purchases actively on here (and appreciate you sharing your experiments in this thread)
Iâve actually halved the number of bottles in my cellar in the last couple years (not the value, though)
I pregamed for last Saturdayâs event. Partly by cutting back wine during the week prior. Myrikl the day before and of along with Zbiotics the day of. Had an electrolytes drink during in the afternoon. Felt ok the next day. I think it makes a difference.
Iâm not sure we did a good job of modulating your pours (sorry) but glad you felt good the next day.
The trend is my friend.
love this kind of math ![]()
Not really sure how to better explain it. In the month of February I had 2 drinks. It wouldnât be unusual for me to not drink in a month if I donât have wine events.
