Healdsburg/Sonoma Recommendations?

Heading through wine country and don’t have a lot of time to do an extended tastings. Any recommendations for

  1. a place to do a longer tasting (if we have time)
  2. nice places that we can pop into for a quick tasting (but not a cattle call)
  3. a restaurant in Healdsburg (doesn’t have to be fancy)

Many thanks.

FWIW, tried searching old threads but searching “Sonoma” brings back WAY too many hits.

Definitely contact Holdredge

I’d also recommend visiting Copain, but you’ll do better with an appointment there. I’ll forward you Hollie’s contact info. She’ll set up a great tasting for you.

A couple years ago I enjoyed nice, quick tastings at Rochioli and Moshin and a good dinner at Barndiva.

Thank you.

I should have mentioned that we will be doing lunch (not dinner) as we’re leaving SF bright and early (I hope).

the place seems to be open for lunch and has a posted lunch menu, fwiw… http://www.barndiva.com/menus.html

Yeh, Holdredge in in downtown Healdsburg.

From Healdsburg, take a drive down Westside road. Tons of wineries you can pop into. Gary Farrell, Porter Creek, Rochioli, Twomey - they have open tasting rooms. If you only have one window for tasting, I’d do this road becasue of the quantity of options.

Sonoma (Santa Rosa) I can recommend Inman (by appt), Iron Horse, and Benovia.

Lunch in H’Burg… Willie’s Seafood and Raw Bar, Heladsburg Bar and Grill. Going to be scorching hot tomorrow, be prepared.

In Sonoma (town) - Sojourn. Send Craig a message. He’s a board member.

On the square in Sonoma, and a 5 minute walk from Sojourn, Girl and the Fig. http://www.thegirlandthefig.com/

Must stop by and bother Holdredge and see if any of his groupies are hanging around.

NSFW, sorta-kinda.

Churro

I’ll send John a PM, per your suggestion. I’d mention your name, but I’m actually hoping to be treated well.

Blood orange EVOO.

Full-bodied. Possibly high alcohol content.

Love Copain. Had lunch at Barndiva last summer and liked it very much. Willie’s is solid, too.

Hey Corey - if you plan to be in the Olivet Road area, drop by Inman Family. I’m at the winery M-F, if this is on the weekend I’ll make sure Michelle takes care of you. Shoot me a PM if interested. Otherwise, have fun!

Corey: I second Mike’s suggestion to visit Inman. Great tasting room and great wine. Make sure you bring an electric car – they have plug hook ups.

Also - drive a bit to Sebastapol and eat at La Bodega. They also have a place on the square in Sonoma.

FIFY, sorry, not a fan of La Bodega.

They make the rockin world go round.

Do you want to drop significant dollars on lunch, or do you want to fill your belly with delicious and fortifying sausage? (You want sausage.)

As for tastings, plenty of good recs in this thread and all over this board, but my absolute favorite in the area is Unti. Very good, well-priced wines poured with as little pretension as you could ever imagine. $5, I think? Mostly rhone varietals.
You need to make a reservation.
(Also, Prescott, Porter Creek, Zichichi, just to name a few.)

I’ll second Willi’s. Right in Healdsburg Square.

Thanks to everyone – I made a couple calls and except for lunch (which I’ll let my better third* decide on), I think we’re pretty close to set.

    • that’s not a knock on my g/f, I’m just twice her size

Dry Creek Vineyard.
