Heading to Montreal in a few months......Eating tips and recommendations?

It’s always in the week(s) leading up to July 4 as far as I know.

I’m headed there tomorrow until July 2. This is at least our 12th or so trip for it. Always fun, even the free concerts can be great.

Have eaten at Foxy four times and all have been excellent. Highly recommend.

Don’t tell them you are American. How’s your French?

After spending nearly a week in Montreal, I found people in Canada had basically zero hostility to Americans, even as there were some mildly heated speeches about a united and sovereign Canada from some MPs at the Canada Day celebrations.

Generally, Canadians don’t do overboard patriotism as well as Americans do ;).

And starting every conversation in Quebec in French a good idea. They’ll switch to English for you almost immediately or just ask politely ask you if you prefer English or French.

Lemeac was as expected, very good French brasserie with fine service and solid wine list. Certainly worth the reasonable prices.

The revelation was Texas style brisket sandwich at the Marche Atwater from Aylwin Barbecue. OMG, good… Much more complex and delicate than I’ve had before.

Had the usual faire of excellent smoked meats and bagels and world class jazz and just a nice atmosphere, as always. Also dropped into the Montreal Pool Room, right next to the jazz festival, for what was supposed to be great poutine and it was… good. :). Not world class, but for $5 or whatever, better than most.

It seems the top restaurants only do reservations one month on advance…I did book “Alma” which seems quite interesting but no one here has mentioned it. I still have some time to get rezzies at a couple of other places.

Cheers!
Marshall

So far, can recommend Place Carmin (very good) and Le Filet (great).

ETA Judy got back for Mon Vin papillon. Amazing food, wine list natural (so not my thing)
