I always snag a bottle of walnut liqueur in France. Any other fun spirits to bring back that are typically unavailable in the US?

Where in France? If in Paris, and if you like gin, check out G34.3, which carries some nice gins from tiny producers in France.

Check out La Maison du Whisky in Paris. The shop on Rue Anjou near Madeleine is more whisky oriented and the shop at Odeon has a wider selection of other spirits. They do private bottlings of diverse types of spirits. Many are very good.
