I can only speak for myself, but this board prompted me to get on the Bedrock bandwagon early. Not that Morgan wouldn’t have succeeded regardless, but the hype train was going early.
And so many of the other ~10-15 wines served that day! Dan really worked to select the dreck to clear out. So many wines, so many flaws.
Returning to the original topic, WB has made me aware of a lot of California producers who probably wouldn’t have been on my radar otherwise - Rhys, Bedrock, Briceland, Broc, Clos Saron.
Like Merrill, this would include Veleta, we love that our Wines, EVOO and other gourmet products have found followers. But more for me on a personal side, I feel at home here. I hope our friends here realize how much Juan and I appreciate your support.
I think that it might help a lot in ways that are hard to quantify. For example, I started buying Carlisle because of this board. I would have quickly stopped, had it not been awesome wine, but it was and now I buy a case or more a year. Then I served some to a friend and now he’s on the list buying a case here and there. Then he served it to his dad, who is now on the list. So because of this Board, just because I logged on, that’s something like four or five cases a year. A drop in the bucket, but that’s just how this board made a tiny imprint on one winery through one person. My guess is that it adds up pretty significantly, often in unknown ways, for a lot of producers. And I echo the others who have said that these great winemakers would certainly be successful regardless and this is just one piece of it. But I wouldn’t underestimate the impact.
That’s a good point. I think we all have local wine friends who aren’t Berserkers. It might be word of mouth for us, but our friends get to try the wines.
