They have an impressive wine selection at a great price. However, I’m concerned about their legitimacy.
Trying to answer this myself. Prices seem to be perfectly calibrated to purchase there vs. at auction
assuming talking about https://fineliquors.com/ (has an "s:)
Thanks for replying. I ultimately decided to purchase from them. Their customer service is excellent, and they are a legitimate company.
I’ve bought from them before, they’ve been fine.
Ah good to hear. Any sense of where they source from? Would think has to be private collections, wish there was more transparency shared
I think they are from private collections.
Hi Ben,
Just a thought from long experience opening countless bottles. A brittle or difficult cork usually isn’t considered a defect in the wine itself, and typically isn’t something that warrants contacting the seller. It’s simply part of the risk of opening bottles, especially older ones. I’ve had plenty that crumble or need careful extraction, and I’ve never expected a refund for that alone.
Even genuine wine faults — cork taint, oxidation, volatile acidity, Brett, refermentation, or heat damage — aren’t always refundable, although some retailers choose to do so as a courtesy. So unless I’m misunderstanding your description, this sounds more like an unfortunate opening experience than a retailer error.
Was the bottle an older vintage? That often explains fragile corks.
Just sharing perspective — no judgment intended.
Cheers, and welcome to the Board.
