Has anyone else come across a bretty Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

I opened a really badly affected 2014 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d’Abruzzo this weekend. Huge brett bloom. I couldn’t get by the wet horse in the unclean barn to find anything to like in my bottle. Scrolling through several tasting notes of multiple different vintages, I could only find one possible mention, so maybe this was a one-off bad bottle. I hope so, as I’ve been buying several per vintage for a while, and this was the first I opened.

Cheers,
Warren

Those wines are like a grab-bag of possibilities in each bottle. Interesting wines, but between brett and VA and whatever else is going on, you can’t really be sure of what you’re getting. I poured some for a few Spanish wine people once, who are considered the most traditional in Rioja, and they did all they could to be polite.

Opened an ‘82 several weeks ago and a good amount of Brett.

I bailed on Metras for that reason. I’ll have to open a few more before I decide to do the same here.

Cheers,
Warren

Yep. I haven’t bailed but totally understand why some do.
