I’m looking at some options for fine dining in London, and Petrus by Gordon Ramsay is on my radar. They have a few different pairings, and I’m wondering if anyone has done the top pairing? Debating about value, offerings, etc.
Petrus/Ramsay not somewhere I’d think of as ‘value’, especially for their *wine prices, but rather a place to go because you absolutely want to go there.
Done high end pairings at similar restaurants and the cost to value never checks out. You get a bunch of Village wines from high end producers just for the name wow factor or GCs from middling producers just for the vineyard wow factor. Either way I find them fairly boring and way too young and not anything like the kind of wine I like to enjoy.
I’d much prefer to buy a bottle I know I’m going to enjoy for the evening.
This what I’m worried about, I’ve definitely found the same. Thanks for your input!
I agree unfortunately. Not the right place for value picks.
I’m assuming from your question that they don’t post the pairing menu online. But maybe you could email the restaurant and inquire about the wines that are part of the pairing. Even if they gave you an outdated list it should shed light on the types of wines they typically offer.
You could, though there’s about a 99.999% chance that the response will follow what Ian and Andrew suggested above.
