Has Anyone Bought from Catawiki?

Hey Everyone,

I came across an auction site called Catawiki and was wondering if anyone has purchased from them before? If so, what was your experience?

Thank you all!

It worked, but shipping was quite expensive and is done by the seller ( so unsure if items are even inspected) … combined shipping for multiple items is rarely possible … and a different shipping adress is also difficult.
Check sale condition details in advance!

Yes. I live in Canada but have an " adopted family " in Germany for shipping. The transaction and shipping have been smooth. They have good pictures of fill and color as I’m buying older Rieslings ( 50’s and 60’s ) . So far no duds. Research ( Wine Searcher ) and pick a max and stick to it.

It’s like wine commune back in the day (eBay for wine). Catawiki never touches the items being sold. Lots of trash mixed in with some gems. Wines are not inspected. Sometimes color/condition is misrepresented. I bought a couple wines there but have stopped since being burned a few times. I do but the occasional antique. Found some cool vintage wine cradles and what not. Shipping is always expensive.

Isn’t it all in Europe?

Yes, from French sellers.
ALWAYS check the cost of shipping! A lot of sellers use Catawiki as their “store” for selling their merchandise, and buffer the price with a high shipping fee - thus they won’t combine shipping fees on multiple purchases, but often ship items together to the same address from the same seller.
Don’t forget to calculate the 9% buyers premium added to the clubbed price (shipping cost added on top of clubbed price + 9%).

Shipping is quick once the order is paid for.

Don’t even think about making contact with a seller, it won’t happen! Catawiki insulates them very thoroughly and the sellers don’t want to converse with you either, neither does Catawiki; if you have a question, then it’s a very slow process to get an answer and by the time you do, the auction has passed.
