Has Anyone Been Drinking BerserkerDay Wines Lately?

That’s great to know - thanks Joe!

I picked up a couple of these back in 2022 . . . but have been reluctant to open them any time soon given some of the tasting notes and suggested drinking windows. Your post leaves me much less hesitant. :wine_glass:

I also picked up a couple bottles of the 2015 Johan and the 2016 La Chenaie. Any recent experiences with either of those? Again, thanks!! :wine_glass:

@Jim_Anderson Your rosé is delicious. So happy with this purchase. We had an unseasonably warm day yesterday, which was the perfect excuse for a bottle of rosé (not that I need an excuse).

Hey! Easily the wine I drink the most of. Still dialing in the style to get the exact balance I’m looking for but this is close. Glad you like it. Bottling the 2024 in May!

I haven’t had any of those recently, sorry! I’m not sure how much better this will get with age, but it had a great balance of fruit, complexity, and freshness for my taste.

First bottle from my Sabelli-Frisch case was the 2022 Red Blend, which is great. Reminds me a bit of one of those eccentric La Clarine Farm blends. The word I kept coming back to is juicy. You could serve this to anyone with success, I think. Would be great with a chill and anything from the grill.

Last 3 months:
2015 Maison Harbour Bourgogne Blanc
2017 Ladd Cellars Chardonnay Cuvee Voile
2018 Keller Estate Chardonnay Peninsula Proprietor’s Blend La Cruz Vineyard

One a month is a pretty poor pace. Need to pick it up

I’m seeing Six Cloves more and more in very good Bay Area wine shops, which I’m thrilled to see. Flatiron SF has the whole fleet on a shelf together and they really stand out.

My first bottle from the Sabelli-Frisch case was the 2023 Pinot. It poured a bit hazy and had a bit of a funky nose. Taste seemed to match, and maybe tasted a bit muddled. Used my vacuvin and put it in the fridge. Tried it again on day two and now three, and it’s a totally dfferent wine. Nose is all red fruit, and the taste is bright, fresh, and really explodes in the mouth. Really enjoying this.

Good to know. Thanks!

Opened this on a whim over the weekend. My first Black Powder. It was delicious. Wishing that I had more.

Today, I returned from a short business trip and wanted to try something new while I was unwinding. The 2021 Elkhorn Peak Napa Chardonnay was a nice choice. This is a medium weight but very flavorful wine, with notes of lemon/lemon curd, tropical fruit, white flowers, and a hint of marzipan. The wine is not heavy or overbearing, has good acidity and seems like it would be very versatile with food – though I am still “unwinding” and haven’t quite gotten around to thinking about that yet. :innocent:

Nice work, @EliseNerlove !

Small Chardonnay report - I’ve now had:

Liquid Farm
Goodfellow
Perkins Harter
Claire Hill
Stereophonic

…and they’ve all been absolutely amazing. Lean, mean, Chardonnay machines without oak, butter, too much tropics or any of that stuff. I can’t pick a favorite so far as they’ve genuinely all been so good.

Cortell Collection arrived yesterday with a lovely sweet personal note, so look forward to sampling that soon.

Just absolutely world class quality across the board - and shows how much quality is evident in small US wine producers.

Indeed it is! My favorite food/wine pairing is shrimp scampi with a glass of this Chardonnay…I use about a half of a cup of the wine in my sauce (along with a generous “sprinkle” of chili flakes, my secret ingredient). The pronounced lemon in the wine really lends itself to the sauce. Anyway - thank you for the beautiful review, @Brad_S_w_a_l_l_o_w - I’m grateful you decided to take a chance on Elkhorn Peak wines for BD16! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the rest of the wines as well. Cheers

Still unwinding, but now watching the Sweet Sixteen with a 2018 Sabelli-Frisch “La Malinche” Mokalumne River Mission. I chose this wine because I wanted to drink one of my new Sabelli-Frisch wines and it was the first one I could reach when I opened the box, which is situated in a very cluttered cool strage room for now.

Anyway, Maryland is off to a slow start, but this Mission is not. Whereas the Terps are going to have to play the second half no matter what happens, this might be gone before that happens. It is a nice, deep garnet color in the glass, and it is both polished and rustic – yeah, I know, but SB wines are always interesting. It has a brambly, red-fruited presence, sort of what I used to associate with the Southern Rhone in the '90s, before they “got big.”

I am impressed with this wine, and I can see why @Adam_Frisch is so committed to Mission. Adam, I am afraid you are going to have to keep taking my money.

Thank you Brad! That was first year I did it, it had a touch more oak than subsequent vintages. It was also the year with a little lower acid, so the only one of the Missions I don’t chill - I think it does best at regular red wine temps.

Looking back at it, I wish it had a touch more acid and a little less alcohol, but that was why the 2019 was such a good vintage - it remedied all that. Glad it’s holding on, a testament to the grapes “tannins”. Because it’s a contended thing amongst Mission producers; does the grape have tannins or is it just the herbal nature in the grape? I say it does, evident in its ability to age, but some disagree. You often see it referred to as a “low tannin” grape but again, I don’t I agree.

I left a few ounces in the bottle for today. On Day 2, I can say with confidence that the wine is doing more than just “holding on.” If I had multiples, I wouldn’t feel any pressure to drink them up right away. They would easily outlive my ability to resist them.

My aunt and uncle stayed with me on their way home to Canada. My uncle loves white wines so I opened a bottle of Adam’s Riesling (I forget which one!). It was a huge hit and everyone loved it.

I sent my aunt and uncle home with more of Adam’s Riesling, so now I need to buy more!

I thought LF had a decent amount of oak treatment?

The White Hill and La Hermana Chardonnays both see 9 months of neutral oak. White Hill is generally more racy and I think it hides the oak better. It was my favorite domestic white for many years running.

Golden Slope sees 15% new oak.
