Still unwinding, but now watching the Sweet Sixteen with a 2018 Sabelli-Frisch “La Malinche” Mokalumne River Mission. I chose this wine because I wanted to drink one of my new Sabelli-Frisch wines and it was the first one I could reach when I opened the box, which is situated in a very cluttered cool strage room for now.
Anyway, Maryland is off to a slow start, but this Mission is not. Whereas the Terps are going to have to play the second half no matter what happens, this might be gone before that happens. It is a nice, deep garnet color in the glass, and it is both polished and rustic – yeah, I know, but SB wines are always interesting. It has a brambly, red-fruited presence, sort of what I used to associate with the Southern Rhone in the '90s, before they “got big.”
I am impressed with this wine, and I can see why @Adam_Frisch is so committed to Mission. Adam, I am afraid you are going to have to keep taking my money.
