Halloween Wine

I was wondering what wine to bring to our neighbor’s Halloween party this evening and then read Merrill’s great post on Arcadian. That’s when I was inspired - I’m bringing BLACK CAT! My neighbor loves cabs and this is a great opportunity to introduce them to an elegant cab the different than the typical Caymus, etc. they drink.

What will you be drinking for Halloween?

Cayuse. It brings the “funk” of Halloween!

I think we rolled thru this a few years ago
Mine were Bogle’s “The Phantom” or anything by Mischief & Mayhem

Frankenwein.

(Wine from Franconia.)

Our Halloween wine for the past 9-10 years has been a bottle of Ghost Block. We started this with the 2001 vintage and have not missed one since.

KB. At Halloween, everyone loves candy.

So the question is, “What wine pairs with Milky Ways?”

Which vintage? I opened the 2008 for some Berserkers in Ohio last week, and they felt it was in a very good place. I also opened my 2010 Special Selection at a rather geeky dinner, and although it met with some appreciation, I think it is too young for this bottling to be fully appreciated right now. Plus it was opened against an unbelievably impressive 2010 Spottswoode, amongst other things. If you have 2006, 2008, or 2009, those would be good choices at the moment. Or 2011 Special Selection.

Thanks, I was thinking the 2009.

It is my go-to wine to please a wide range of audiences. Let me know how to shows.

I plan to open Venom by Seghesio,Trick by A.P. Vin, The Treat, Bogle Phantom, Black Cat by EMH, and Old Ghost by Klinkerbrick

If I can gather sufficient participants, I’d open a black cat. [cheers.gif]

We took a bottle of Poizin to a party tonight. It was absolutely awful. Luckily we took another bottle that redeemed us.

Great idea Scott and I have a 6 pack of the 09 so Black Cat it is !

Merrill- thanks for the update on the vintages. Nice note on the 10 Spotts too. All my 10’s will see a good sleep in a cool cellar for a long time. I have high hopes for that vintage.

Cheers
Fred

BUMP. What are y’all drinking tonight, regardless of name?

2011 Rhys Alesia PN for me - good stuff and looks to have several years of life ahead of it!

will post a note in that thread tomorrow.

With note…

  • 2011 Rhys Alesia Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast - USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast (10/31/2014)
I opened this for Halloween - enjoying while handing out candy to the kids. Some funk on the nose initially which blew off. Very smooth mouthfeel, with medium fruit and good tannic structure. Long finish. This is nice wine and composed well. Not the most complex, but well made. I’d really like to try this in say 3-4 years, where I really think it will hit its stride. GOOD. (90 pts.)
