Half Sized Barrels

Anyone happen to have a lead on half-sized (30G/110L) barrels for sale in Nor Cal? I’ve found a few new options and may pick one up for cabernet. But for the life of me haven’t been able to track down a used one. I’ve been using Flextanks and while they seem to work well enough, what I’ve aged in barrel has been so much better. Totally makes sense that people hang onto these in the rare event they have them, but worth a shot.

If you are looking for used barrel might check with the Beverage People in Santa Rosa. Good luck

Both Taransaud and Francois Freres sell half barrels.Or, at least they did when I was in business. Used small barrels are rare.

Thank you both. Got lucky and tracked down two 30g Sylvain with a couple years on them - winery got sick of them not fitting right on their racks. $30 a pop and saved me $750 for a new one!

Laying down a couple slats from a broken down full barrel will seat a half barrel in a rack.

For future reference and anyone that pops on thread. Rewine Barrels based here in Oregon can make a half barrel with any barrel re-toasted… which there’s a lot of winemakers that don’t like the flavor… you can always sweat the toast out.

What’s nice is they’re the same length so they fit on a normal rack. Pretty slick and don’t cost as much as a new barrel but are more expensive than a neutral.

Thanks!

Also for future reference, in NorCal some other producers in our facility have sourced 30-gallon barrels from ReCoop.

Thanks! I’ve seen some ads from them and looks like a solid product.

(Picked up a BD six pack from you btw.)
