Grower Champagne and mixed reds at Noreetuh

I returned to Noreetuh with some non-wine friends the day after our big wine dinner and we did a big blowout dinner with a variety of wines. The grower champagnes were all from Noreetuh’s list, and I brought the reds. Lovely time was enjoyed by all!

Suenen C+C

This was lovely with some lemon zest and white peach on the nose, with crisp acidity that danced along the tongue and a brilliant finish.

La Rogerie Le Bourg Sud

A bit more vinous and lighter bodied, with stunning aromatics of pomelo and hay. The palate and finish were beautiful.

Ulysse Colin Les Pierierres 19

Much richer with a hint of vanilla. Stone fruits and some bread on the nose. Palate was complex with lively acidity and a heavier mouth feel. Long finish.

Elise Bougy Le Mont Chainqueux 21

First time with this producer and it didn’t disappoint! Beautiful nose with some honeydew and fresh cut grass. Palate was very vinous with a core of acidity and more pretty fruits. Very fine bead and mousse. Beautiful.

Philippe Lancelot Le Fond de Bateau 18

Very linear and acidic with some citrus. Pleasant palate and finish.

2017 Hubert Lignier Morey St Denis Vielles Vignes 1er

Unlike some of the echezeaux from the night before this was firing on all cylinders. Black currants, plums, and soft forest floor on the nose. Palate was plush with more fruits and good acidity, finish was long. Perfect pairing with the duck.

2016 Maybach Materium

This was not as big as some maybachs I’ve had, after a couple hours of decant this was drinking pretty well. Still a ton of structure. Some cassis and vanilla on the nose, ample acidity and nice silky palate. Finish was long and pretty. Not an old school Napa experience but enjoyable.

2009 Chateau Lafite Rothschild

I’d received a lot of different advice about decant time for this wine, in the end, I decided to decant at the beginning of dinner and poured about 3 hours after opening which was perfect. Bouquet was absolutely intoxicating with cedar, leather, and beautiful ripe plums. The palate had great structured with softening tannins and lots of complexity. The acidity was perfectly balanced. The finish was intense and extremely long. A first growth drinking in a beautiful early stage is really hard to beat.

That’s some serious wine for non-wine folk!

I wouldn’t say they are non-wine people in the sense of not having had lots of good wines; many of them have large cellars, but mostly Napa/bdx centric and aren’t wine enthusiasts compared to ppl here. Most of them have had a pretty good cross section of wines including DRC etc, just this wasn’t a wine dinner in the sense of ones I usually do.
