Grocery Store Moscato Recommendation

I’m hosting a family function next week for my mom, with lots of aunts and uncles. My mom asked me to pick up some Moscato. My mom (and the rest of the family) aren’t into wine and aren’t particularly choosy, so when mom says “Moscato”, what she really means is “sweet white wine”. Probably something with medium acidity, rather that a strip-your-tooth-enamel high acid Riesling.

I know nothing about this category, so does anyone have a recommendation for a widely available grocery store wine that might be a good choice? Or are they all pretty much the same at this level?

Any help is appreciated.

I quite like Saracco and Vietti, and feel they are a cut above Martini…

Big fan of the Vietti as well, though never seem it in a grocery store. Have seen it at total wine

get Bartenura, it’s what she’s likely expecting and probably in the cold box

Michelle Chiaro Nivole, if you can find it.

Total Wine usually has Saracco

My rec would also be Saracco. Light, very fruity, not overly sweet, with a slight spritz. Crowd pleaser. Very consistent from year to year.

Are you or other wine enthusiasts there going to be drinking it? If not, I’d just get Barefoot.

In addition to the Vietti mentioned, Oddero makes a pretty solid one as well but you may only find that in a specialty wine shop.

The Saracco was how I got my daughters into wine. It worked-out well!

I prefer this to the Vietti, finding it very fresh, light, accessible, and a definite crowd pleaser.

I’d agree with this. Moscato d’Asti balances sweetness and fizz, with enough acidity (for us lot) to cut through. That acidity may be too high for people who aren’t into wine.

Aussie versions I’ve tried had lighter acidity e.g. Brown brothers and Innocent bystander. The former so lacking in acidity it was utterly flabby, but then that might be what’s needed here.
