Great birthday dinner including mature Bourgogne, Riesling, Barolo and Bordeaux

In order to celebrate my 60 years birthday we enjoyed the following wines. I will only comment on those bottles that stood out for me (deviated from expectations)

14 Koehler Ruprecht Saumagen Auslese Trocken RR 2007 what a wine. Amazingly great. One of the best white wines on this planet IMO. Some found cork-taint, but it dissapeared as it was Fillipi magic [cheers.gif] [cheers.gif]

We spent 8 fantastic hours in great company with amazing wines

Looks like an amazing line-up…so glad you had a wonderful celebration with those you love and some unforgettable wines.

Happy birthday, Claus …
mine will come soon …

Was this the GG or the Auslese? I had the GG about 5 years ago and it was amazingly good.

Sorry Jay. Both Morsteins were GG

Nice line up, Claus,

I hope I do as well, indeed half as well, during my 60th next year! (I have an F. Rinaldi Barolo Riserva and a few other similar wines lined up. Methinks '58 was a better year than '57 in Piedmont–no disrespect, as they say.)

Enjoy,
Josh

Super wines…Happy Bday!! I guess I’m drinking Donnhoff Brucke Spat WAY too early as I just had the 2015 last night!

Well, if it’s even better than the bottle I had 5 years ago it must have been awesome

Methinks too [cheers.gif]
Also regarding Borgogno

Have had the 1985 Brücke several times. It never stops to amaze. This evening the 1988 was better

This was a kind of revelation.
Only a … fears 2006 [soap.gif]

I did back on release. Now I’m kicking myself for not owning any.

Claus,

Happy birthday.

I was very interested in seeing the 2005 Chandon de Briailles Corton Bressandes on your list of wines that stood out for you. I would have guess that this would be an excellent wine, but one that is 10-20 years too young. I have not even looked at any of my 2005s from CdB. Could you tell us a bit more about what you thought of the wine. Thanks.

Impressive. [welldone.gif] The first wines from Donnhoff I had were 1987 Brucke. Still have a couple of bottles of 1990s, but nothing from the 80s.

WOW!

Happy birthday Claus!

Thanks Howard
Indeed it was way too young. But still much better than the 1970 Dr Peste. A great effort by Chandon de Briailles.

I sincerely hope you are right. Have a lot of 2006. Some Dönnhoff and Diel have not shown well up to now.
But Keller Morstein and Kirchspiel… [cheers.gif]

IMO the 2007 German Rieslings are problematic and while they are fine I think it´s better to drink them sooner than later.

What do you think the problem is?

If we are talking GG, 2007 is clearly superior to 2005 and 2006 IMO. However as noted above, 2006 Keller Morstein and Kirchspiel (and G Max) are great, but still not as great as 2007. 2004, 2008, 2010 are of course much much better vintages.
At our tasting all 2007 (Brücke, Saumagen and Saumagen RR) performed brilliantly [cheers.gif]
