Grassl Glassware

I just purchased two Liberte glasses at k&l over the weekend and they both came out of the paper like the one on the right. The opacity went away after washing them but I thought it was a little weird also.

Just replaced a Grassl Cru I broke with a couple replacements, love how OR pinot noir and chardonnay shine with these glasses. Also picked up a decanter finally.

Anyone use the Liberte as a replacement for Zalto Universal? How do they compare?

I use Liberte as a replacement for my broken Gabriel Glas Golds that are now very pricey and prefer both of them to Zalto Universal. It’s splitting hairs a bit as all three are excellent all purpose glasses and great for many whites and Champagne.

Really enjoy my Libertes and think they do a comparable job to Zalto Universals. Though I find the Zalto Universal to do better with champagne by a noticeable margin.

Mineralité is the best Grassl option for bubbles and Riesling.

Between my wife and I we use Grassl probably 6-7 times a week. Stems, Vyce Stemless and Vyce Rocks.

Never had the clouding issue. We normally run the Bosch dishwasher.

I use the tasting glass most often. I believe they now call it the Versatile. It is very similar in shape to Liberte and Gabriel but a touch sturdier in my hand. It’s my go to weeknight glass. It is shorter than the higher end stems so it fits on the top rack of the Bosch better.

I bought the MineralitĂ© awhile ago. While I agree about bubbles, I preferred the Zalto Universal for riesling. Haven’t tried the Liberte yet.

Anybody have luck contacting CJF lately? I have some glasses due and have not been able to contact anyone for 2 weeks via email and phone. Thx

Sorry to hear that. @Chris_Freemott is usually pretty good about responding. Haven’t interacted with him lately, but tagging him here so y’all can hopefully connect

I experience the clouding thing when the glasses sit in the cupboard for an extended period of time without use; can’t say they’ve ever gotten as cloudy as in your picture, though. A quick rinse and polish has always solved the problem in the moment.

FYI, I did get a hold of Chris and the stemware should arrive today. Gracias.

Just got an email from CJF Selections, and looks like Chris is having a pre-holiday special: six Vigneron Series Stems gets you a free Durand Opener.

I’ve been wanting to get more of the Liberte glasses and I’ve been wanting a Durand. Hmm

Hello
Cloudy glass from the factory was a ‘thing’. For those with this issue, reach out directly to me. Chris@cjfselections.com

The glass can be replaced. Start with that mindset.
The issue has been resolved. There was a mistake in the rinse bath with a decalcifying product not being added.

Glasses with this residue should be soaked in CLR overnight in a container. I use a strong solution, 1/4 cup CLR per gallon of water in a Cambro.

Then I rinse and run through my dishwasher. I’ve not had this approach fail. But, it doesn’t mean we won’t stand behind the glass and swap for you, gratis.

Cheers
Chris

Thats good to know, I have a few glasses that are very cloudy and I was put off by it.

CLR is Calcium Lime And Rust. It’s a brand name cleaner you can find at any grocery store or hardware store

Kinda nasty stuff that’s why Chris recommends dilution.
