I apparently own the only CT bottle of the 2004 Stadlmann Zierfandler Mandel-Hoh, as well as the only bottle of 2004 Stadlmann Rotgipfler Tagelsteiner.
Not referring to it at all, and don’t know why you thought I was. I’m talking about much rarer, much more famous, much older wines that people today pay tens of thousands of dollars for, thinking they’re getting the genuine article.
Some of my more obscure:
1979 Taltari Cabernet Sauvignon
1999 Malat Pinot Noir from Austria
1997 Franco Milos Stagnum from Croatia
1998 Vrhunsko Dingac also from Croatia
1996 Cuvee M from Trimbach, Riesling from the Mandelberg vinyard
1944 Domaines Et Terroirs Du Sud Banyuls
Multiple Picolits from Friuli
Some really old Sherry
Late harvest Scheurebe from Joseph Phelps
1987 Anderson Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from New Mexico
1958 Tokaji Aszu 4 Puttonyos Muskotalyos (a Muscat Tokaji Aszu)
and my most obscure, 1998 Bencesbor Telkihegyi Kiralyleanyka. I’ve no idea what it is dispite looking for the past 10 years. I think it may be a dessert wine, in a 500 ml bottle in a presentation wooden case. It was a gift from some Hungarian military members when I did some work there.
I have the only 2006 Rousset Croze-Hermitage Blanc? One of only three 2006 Chateau de la Gardine Cuvee Generations CDP Blanc? And no one else has a bottle of 1987 Pat Paulsen Refrigerator White???
Wow. It’s a heck of a list. I must have the most obsure cellar going. It’s only got 490 bottles all up.
This list is the single-digit holdings only.
The * bottles below have me as the sole holder.
What would be even more frightening is how many wines I have the only CT TN for…

This was a fun game! I went through my cellertracker page and found that I have 15 bottles which there are less than 10 listed, but upon looking at them closer I’ve realized it’s not because of how rare these wines are, but because nobody else will admit to owning them…
2008 Viña Cono Sur Chardonnay, 2010 Georges Dubœuf Beaujolais-Villages Nouveau Château de Plantigny, NV Castle Creek Winery Gewürztraminer Late Harvest…
I either have weird tastes, or I don’t know what the hell I’m buying half the time…
For what it’s worth, no, I don’t use Cellartracker but was looking there to see if anyone had stock of '78 Taltarni Shiraz. No, but it is listed. I presume someone had it, but then consumed it.
But Claude brings up an interesting point - there are things in there that have never existed. So obviously people input things they don’t have, yet it becomes a record of some kind of validation of authenticity. The notion that if it’s in Cellartracker, perhaps it exists, even when it doesn’t. I imagine it’s impossible for CT to stay on top of what’s legit and what isn’t. But the notion of nonexistent wines being listed there seems unfortunate at best.
I know that Eric works very hard to eliminate these, but it is a huge task. I try to help out in areas that I follow in detail, e.g. Giacosa and other Piedmont producers. The labels are often confusing, and people often aren’t that careful, perhaps because they are entering wines while drinking them?
I’ve been guilty of this too. Recently I went to enter a TN on a 2007 Ojai Sauvignon Blanc Westerly Vineyard. I just happened to notice that I had the only 2 bottles ever put into CT. I thought this was odd. When I looked more carefully, I saw that Ojai switched their SB vineyard from Westerly to McGinley in 2007. When I bought the wine from the winery, I had just used my entry from the 2006, not realizing it was a different vineyard.
I do the same. Wineries skip vintages, regions change; all kind of things go on. If I can substantiate an error claim, I do so and send off a note.
If a wine has no stock, no drinking/consumption history, no photo, it’s just the ‘shell’ of an entry, then it’s far more suspicious, obviously.
cheers,
GG
