We are going to France early this summer with stops in Nice, Beaune and Paris. Been to Beaune and Paris many times before, but have only been to Nice for the day a few times. We will be doing day trips out of Nice, but will be based at the Negresco Hotel (got a great rate there a few months ago). Looking for restaurants for dinner that are somewhat casual (no need for coat and tie) and are walking distance (1/2 hour or less) from the Hotel.
Thanks for any help. This board generally is the best guide for restaurants of anything I know. Have previously gotten great suggestions for Rome, Florence and Barcelona, among other places, and look forward to thoughts on restaurants in Nice.
We’ll be there in a few weeks - likely to hit La Part des Anges wine bar (and store) for very casual light bites and wine (they do more substantial cooking for lunch). Also eyeing the new wine bar Pure & Vins (sister to Pure & V restaurant, 1 star Michelin).
A friend recommended Franchin for bistro-ish dining.
We ate at both last summer and they were very good. We sat in the wine room/cellar at les agitateurs and it was a pleasant private setting
I don’t think you need a coat and tie anywhere in Nice.
jan…we loved our meal here in 2019. 1 michelin star (deserves more). south african chef with cote d’azur ingredients. great staff and right by the port in nice. highly recommended.
We stayed at the Negresco (fabulous hotel) and ate at their Bistro, the Rotonde. Very good food and excellent service, but it was a bit overpriced. Still, a very nice experience.
We also decided we really liked eating dinner at the beach clubs along the Mediterranean. Whatever this lacked in food quality, it made up for in being right next to the Mediterranean.
Of the two places we went on the beach for dinner, we thought the food was mediocre at the Negresco Beach Club la Plage. However, we really enjoyed dinner at a Beach Club right next store called Blue Beach. Their Sole meunière was fabulous and relatively well priced. Excellent experience.
We went to the old city of Nice one night and ate at Bistrot Antoine. I really liked this place. I have only in the past had Ggavelox using salmon but they had a gravelox dish using a whitefish. Incredibly good. Also, they had a pretty good wine list compared with the mediocre lists we found a lot of places. We had an excellent Bourgueil from Breton. Nowhere near as good as what we had at dinner when we left Nice for Burgundy, but still quite enjoyable and well priced.
