TN: `07 Boutari Kretikos, Crete.
Found this Vilana varietal in a dumpy store whilst in the mountains last weekend. Obscure location, in the middle of nowhere surrounded by the Rocky Mountains.
$14 Cdn, 12% alc, cheap looking cork. This white is a blend of Vilana, Thrapsathiri and Attiri.
Color is a pale straw, no green. On the nose I found some grapefruit, apple and some peach. I was expecting something quite acidic but overall crisp, refreshing and requires some seafood I think. Sure there is some acidity here but the apple, pear and citrus element all blended together nicely on the finish. Pretty good effort.
On day 2, finished remnants with some grilled pork chops on the BBQ and wine had softened nicely. Comfort food in those there hills!
