Still considered hipster champagne? Cédric Bouchard and Marie-Courtin are now too hard to source so wondering what other producers people are excited about.
plenty of marie courtin available at b-21 at quite fair pricing. pierre gerbais is pretty cool as well…
All the cool kids are drinking Pinot Blanc.
Mine are Gerbais, Marie Courtin, Vouette et Sorbee. Horiot is down there too, although I have not had much of their stuff.
Charles Dufour
Salima + Alain Cordeuil
Petit Clergeot
Ruppert-Leroy
Elise Dechannes
(I sell some of these)
How did I miss Ruppert-Leroy?
I own and drink the wines. Sometimes the wines can be esoteric and push the boundaries but I like them.
Nikita, on the Marie Courtin, I haven’t found the same ‘hard to source’ situation with the wines. Yes, I have to look around but I can think of a handful of sources who seem to offer the wines over time. Bouchard? I dunno, as I don’t buy them anymore but Marie Courtin should not be hard (with the caveat that I do not know where you live and how that might impact what you can buy, have shipped, etc).
+1 on Horiot.
More recently for me also, Domaine Leon
Forgot about Leon. Mine haven’t arrived yet so I’m yet to try them.
One I did forget about is Etienne Sandrin in Celles-sur-Ource (same village as Gerbais and Bouchard). Also new for me, have the bottles now, a mix of single plot wines all from 2019. Perhaps after I taste them (plan to do all 4 of them together to see if there are true site differences), maybe I will have them as a viable reply for Nikita’s list.
Laissaigne ain’t shabby. Not my first choice but more than happy to drink it anytime.
Celles-sur-Ource triggered another for me was well…Julien Prelat. Not a lot coming to the US so far, but its pretty good stuff.
I’ve had a few of the Sandrin wines, Val Champignat needs time for the acid to calm down (I usually like high acid, but this was a lot even for me), Mouille-Brant I liked, but also showing an excess of youth. I think the Travers a Celles showed the best young, but also would benefit from more time in bottle. Overall, well made, good bones, but reserving judgment until I can try them with some age
I thought about Lassaigne but I want to assign it to Montgueux, and I took a more literal (perhaps too narrow) view of the original question.
We’re your single site stuff from Sandrin the 2019s?
19, 18, 19 respectively I believe. All disgorged February 2022.
Thank you.
I used to import Coessens. I don’t hear much about them. They are not in the style of Bouchard but they are good wines. After I worked with him he did some sort of partnership with Selosse which naturally created some buzz. I’ve heard the wines have subsequently been difficult to source. ie allocated. It’s a small property of only about five hectares IIRC.
I really loved all the Coessens I’ve had, only found on the grey market. But still well priced even with the Selosse connection.
A big thumbs up for the already mentioned Domaine Léon and Charles Dufour. I also want to mention Clandestin (also in Landreville), Robert Barbichon from Gyé-sur-Seine, and La Borderie from Bar-sur-Seine.
v&s textures is the best mono cepage expression of pb for me ![]()
