I am really looking forward to trying this.
I am really looking forward to trying this.
This is a very, very, very good wine. One line I wrote down in my tasting note for this wine was āThe best Comtes de Champagne since probably the 1995 vintage and one that shows everything that is great about Chardonnay from the 2013 vintage and Comtes de Champagne.ā
Ugh. I just loaded up on 2012 after trying it and loving it and now everyone is saying 2013 is better???
I like that line Brad. Now I am looking forward to trying this even more.
No such thing as too much Comtes, especially given the current pricing.
Hhmm, Cedric Bouchard Val Vilane at $150 or 2013 Taittinger Comptes de Champage at $175?
To drink when, now?
I like Cedric Bouchard, starting drinking it about 15 years ago. However, I do prefer Comtes and there are no supply issues with Comtes, unless they try to fabricate one like they did with ā12 that has now backfired. Based on Bradās note and others who have tried it, I have no doubt I am going to like the ā13. I had no issues finding the quantity I wanted, but it would have been a lot of work to try to source even just a few 6-packs of the current release Val Vilaine.
How much is a bottle of Cedric Bouchard and can I get it in the UK?
Lisa
Ā£170-180 all in. Check wine searcher for uk availability.
I guess my question was largely rhetoricalā¦my response was six of each for the moment. I love Bouchard on the young side and CDC on the older side. Two totally different bubblies stylistically but last time I popped an '02 Comptes I was blown away.
I love Cedricās wines, but in the big picture, to me, the Val Vilaine in any vintage is no where near the quality of the 2013 Comtes BdB. That said, variety is the spice of life and many prefer different flavors or want to food match, etcā¦ so overall quality is not the only factor to consider. If I had to buy a case and required to mix these two wines, Iād go 10 bottles of 2013 Comtes BdB and 2 bottles of Val Vilaine. Now if you start talking Les Ursules or Creux dāEnfer, I would change my ratios (depending on the vintage), but I would still fill half that case with 2013 Comtes BdB.
The 2013 Comtes BdB is young, but it is already brilliant in a youthful way and will age for decades. It is a special wine.
curses on all of you.
I think Comtes is my go-to āspecial occasionā Champagne. Krug and Salon are forever out of reach now. Iāve never had a bottle from any vintage of Comtes I have not really liked. Had dinner with a buyer last week. We had an 86 DunnHM, my 2015, MacDonald 2021ā¦ for me the 1995 Comtes we started with was my personal WOTN. $229 aināt cheap but itās not overpriced either.
'95 Comtes was the first Comtes I ever had and I was forever hooked. I bought it on release from PC for around $90/btl and by the time it finally arrived, it was ready to drink. I am on the same page as you, I find it hard to find a vintage of Comtes that I donāt like. Since '95 I would say '00 and '05 have been less than subpar for me and '11 I am unsure about, but otherwise every vintage has been very good to great. IMO, only Cristal has a similar track record of consistency over that same period.
I am going to a friendās place on Sunday and I know that '02 Comtes from magnum will be served. I am so looking forward to drinking that.
Any more thoughts on 2013? For this FOMO non-champagne drinker? Although that '04 Comtes was great (until it gave me an allergic reaction!)
I might have an opinion tomorrow. Trying to figure out if I can get it delivered or pick it up tomorrow.
That was a killer bottle of '04 btw.
showed better than other examples? I.e. bottle variation to the upside? I was temped to buy some for the wife after tasting it.
Upside. About 2 years go I noticed this starting to drink really well. Every bottle since then had been very good to great and the one we had together I felt was great.
