I have these Gaja bottles in my inventory and they are priced extremely well. Pleaase feel free to check around online just to compare. For WB Members, I’ll gladly extend a 10% discount off the MY Price column and free shipping.
My wine shop is called Sacred Cellars and I’m located in Dallas.
Thanks so much,
This is really amazing to me. 114 people have already looked at this post and not a single comment or PM. Do people just not have any interest in Gaja or is the economy really hurting people THAT much where expensive bottles just aren’t selling, and even selling at Very competitive prices?
I’ll listen to any feedback if anyone has an opinion…
Thanks,
Just my 2 cents: this is the wrong crowd. IMHO, even at these prices (which are very good compared to market), the wines are not a great value. Nothing against the wines and their inherent quality, just the pricing (sort of like 2009 Bordeaux, Clos de Tart recently, etc). I would bet that a large fraction of the winos who frequent WB feel the same way, note the recent wine talk thread titled “Worst QPR ever? Sounds like a contender. Am I wrong.” This thread was about Gaja SB…
There are plenty of people who would jump on these wines (even in this economy), especially at your discounted pricing, they just aren’t here.
Agreed. Were the producer Giacosa, Conterno, etc etc, I don’t think your post would have lasted too long at all. But Gaja gets banged around here for their QPR. To me, they’re like Silver Oak, Bose, etc.

Interesting perspecive on ‘this crowd’.
Curious, just where might the ‘right’ crowd reside?
Ken Vastola, you watching?
Ok here’s my perspective. I have managed 2 Italian Restaurants and handled the list so I’ve purchased my share of Barolo and Gaja in my day. The prices are ok but not great. The front line on Gaja is very high and rarely sells IMHO. It almost always goes on sale and then I buy. I paid $275 per for the 04 San Lorenzo. Why would I pay a little higher for a “lesser vintage”. By lesser I mean not as highly rated. I don’t care what anyone says, wine pricing follows vintage and producer reputation. If an 08 Bordeaux is more highly rated than it’s 009 counterpart it will still always sell for less. At least in the first 5 to 10 years.
Then and please don’t take this personally, but I’ve never heard of your store and it’s located in Texas. Two negatives for me concerning condition. Finally, I didn’t post anything because I’ve been trained like a Pavlovian dog to not respond to CC posts. Ahhh, it’s good to be free.
I just noticed you’re offering 10 percent off the My Price. You should just post your asking price.
Interesting perspective. Just curious, with all 8 of your posts, was this a scientific study that was done?
I’ve been eye balling the Sauv Blanc, I’m probably one of the few who feel that it’s a top quality wine, but have been waiting for you to lower your price. As Nick mentioned, the TX location hurts you too…
Not to mention, all that HEAT in Texas…
Nice Zach. Bring that ole Squires board spirit here. Maybe he’s read a lot more than he’s posted?
Sorry if I offended anyone, not my intention. I’ve been a longtime lurker and don’t post too often. I can see how that meets resistance, but attacking me for a low post count or based on the premis that some people, I would bet against it being a majority, on this board do buy Gaja doesn’t seem an appropriate response. Obviously no scientific study was done. However, based on QPR attacks Gaja does suffer on this board, lack of interest in this thread and Rudy’s question, I thought it appropriate to post my views. Again I believe I started my post with IMHO. It was meant to spur a little discussion for the benefit of Rudy.
Gabe,
Welcome to the board. I feel that post was not meant to offend anyone and think that you were just offering Rudy your opinion.
Gabe,
I don’t think you need to apologize at all. Not sure about the snarkiness from the moderator though. Maybe he’s not of a fan of fathers day.
And to the OP, the reason why no comments is that folks here tend to respect the rules against commenting on the merit of particular offers. On other boards, folks love to be the first one to post “what are you thinking offering that crap at those prices” comments.
First time I’ve check the board in a few days, so Thanks to ALL WHO POSTED a response to my inquiry.
As always, I’m constantly learning. It seems that Gaja doesn’t get as much respect that I thought it might and me being in Texas hurts the credibility of the storage of the wines and my prices are ok, but not great…
If anyone needs a reference-there are three gentlemen who are WB’rs who have been to my shop and seen the wines in person.
I did buy the wines from the local distributor (republic) and had them sold to JJ Buckley. The only reason I bought them in the first place was a simple business flip. About a week to 10 days after I wrote a check for these wines, the person at JJ B. emailed me and said that he would not be interested in them unless we could renegotiate the price. My heart sank then and I started searching for another buyer ASAP. I purchased about 15 cases, and have now sold about 6 cases. The list in this thread is what I have left. Looking back, I should have asked for 50% down from JJB, but since I had done a previous transaction with them, I didn’t ask for it.
If anyone does want any of these wines, let me know if you’d like to make an offer. Don’t cut me off at the knees, but I will listen to suggestions. All I’m trying to do is recoup my $$ and move on.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Once again, thanks for the input and comments.
Rudy,
Lot’s of people like (or even love) Gaja’s wines. I think it’s just the market these days. If you’re just looking to move the wines, you probably should look at Wine Searcher and go under the low price. I don’t think you have far to go for that. But you have to find someone who loves his wines.
Ken is correct! Just list them as the lowest on w-s and you’ll sell them.
MK
Thanks Ken, I’ll give that a shot.
