Probably need to let this die, but just received my shipping notification from RM for the last pinot release. The shipping notice clearly states, as it has for years if I recall correctly… “ANY DAMAGES MUST BE REPORTED WITHIN 24 HOURS OF DELIVERY” fwiw
I wonder what they count as damages. Physical shopping damages? Or, how are you going to determine TCA, heat, or any other production flaws? Those won’t be detectable until you open. And, for many producers, the wine won’t be ready for consumption for many years.
Well it’s shipping the date I requested, it’s relatively cool on the path and cooling down here in the South Carolina Lowcountry, so all good here. As far as any friends asking for what damages are within 24 hours of delivery most of my friends would take that to mean physical damage (as this OP was referencing).. however I do have some friends that are capable of opening all bottles upon delivery just to make sure they are sound
Not to be a devils advocate here, but there are many folks who ship wines directly to offsite storage and may actually not get to check on thoses wines for quite some time. What would happen in that case?
I guess might depend on the offsite storage. I’m using UOVO for some wines and they unpack and repack and take a photo of at least one of the bottles. Not sure how much they are looking and if they’d report to me if corks were significantly elevated or there was damage but I’d hope so.
