I’d bet more than likely. They were probably put on the ice right when they were caught (if they’re from a quality company anyway). I’d also bet than unless you live directly in the area of area of where they are harvested, they are more fresh than if they were fresh, so to speak.
Francis …only reason I say this…is when the guy bagged them he said don’t close the top or i’ll kill them? If I was frozen…id be dead. …thanks for the feed back… they looked a bit milky?
Interesting.
I’d say given mostly bad repercussions by most that I know after eating seafood that’s eaten contrary to expected norm, I’d say proceed with caution if you end up eating them.
Completely fine Under 2 conditions. They were frozen correctly mean frozen and keep frozen until the second condition they are thawed correctly. thawed correctly means Option 1; under running water or option 2; in the refrigerator or option 3; from frozen to serving temp in one step such as deep frying. If option 1 or 2 is used you can still eat them safely on the half shell. Personally i would do it in the Refridge for this serving method. This was a question on my food safety course last month. Must not get to 41 -135 degrees for longer that 2 hours.
P.S Eric don’t you keep Kosher? Your answer was correct, but I was thrown by your knowing about Shellfish???
Larry, I am Jewish but grew up in a reform house eating absolutely everything. My wife was raised Conservative and grew up keeping Kosher. Since we started dating in 1995 I have kept a Kosher kitchen with her, although out of the house I still do as I please. Generally I won’t eat treif out of the house when I am with her and the kids unless it is something subtle and not in your face. The kids will get to choose for themselves at Bar and Bat Mitzvah age what they wish to do out of the house, so I don’t want to rub their noses in it for now so to speak.
So while I don’t eat a lot of oysters, I have had enough to be pretty familiar with them. BTW, the best oysters I have ever had were in Bordeaux last June, shucked fresh on demand. Insanely good and fresh.
