Veronique Drouhin posted this yesterday. Montrachet, Clos du Vougeot, Echezeaux all had candles.
Yeah, all the winemakers were talking about it at Paulée on Thu and Fri nights.
Ben Leroux’s wife took this video Friday morning on the Route des Grands Crus. I believe it’s mostly Bâtard.
The thing to note that Alex Moreau pointed out is that frost in March is totally normal historically. The difference is that the vines these days are budding earlier and earlier, so whereas in past years they would still be dormant, these days they are at risk.
That’s an excellent observation.
Post in the “What if Global Warming is Normal” thread. We’re about to have bud break if we don’t already so we’ve got a three-four week window where it can get dicey. Not like Burgundy’s every-year situation but it’s still in play.
This is the new reality all over Europe. Took a guided tour of Piemonte with a winemaker/owner of a small family-owned winery last summer. He said this is the biggest issue in terms of financial viability.
Yeah, I’m waiting to hear from some homies in the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. Tonight is another nail biter for them.
@Jim_Anderson - I’m seeing some swelling and woolies in Temperance. And the east side of Eola hit budbreak at Cristom (Paul Gerry’s Chard block - Dijon) a few days ago. And just saw Dustin showing some budbreak out at Freedom Hill.
