Yesterday afternoon we started at Susan’s Fine Wines for a tasting of wines from distributor Fiasco Wines. We started with a 2007 Côtes du Rhône Blanc ‘Prestige’ from Domaine Roger Perrin - 50% Viognier, the rest Rousanne, Marsanne, and Grenache Blanc, it was rich white fruits, good acidity, with a long rich, fruity finsh. Next we tasted a 2007 Rudi Wiest Mösel - good fruit, slightly sweet, with bracing acidity. Then we had a 2007 Bonny Doon Vin Gris de Cigare, a rich pleasant tasting rosé.
Then on to the reds: first a 2007 Benton Lane Estate Pinot Noir - nice flowery cherry fruit, adequate acidity, and a medium fruity finish. Next was a boxed liter of organic 2006 Viñas de Alto Salvador Malbec from Mendoza, branded Yellow + Blue (because those two colors make green) - easy drinking and nice red and black fruit flavors. Then we had a 2001 Alvear Palacio Quemado Riserva (100% Tempranillo) - very rich and flavorful, with a long finish, a very good wine at a very good price. We finished with a 2006 Susana Balbo Late Harvest Malbec ‘Virtuoso’, from Mendoza - brighter fruit and higher acidity than the previous vintage.
Then we went home and had a lovely 2004 Colin-Deléger 1er Cru Puligny-Montrachet ‘Les Demoiselles’ - medium yellow-gold in color; rich nose and flavors of spicy ripe pears, green apples, and white flowers; full-bodied mid-palate of flowery white fruits with good acidity; and a very long complex fruit and spice finish. it was lovely with a simple chicken, chanterelle, black bean, and rice soup.
We then finished with a 375ml bottle of the 2006 Virtuoso, that we had just tasted, with TJ’s chocolate bars.
