Four wines at Blackfish BYO dinner

Took some clients to Blackfish BYO in Conshocken, PA. Two other informal off-lines taking place there that evening - they had much higher level wines:) Also dining was former PLCB Chairman Jonathan Newman.

This is just an assortment of wines I thought the group would enjoy and would pair well with the cuisine.

  • 2006 Siduri Pinot Noir Lewis Vineyard - USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley (11/17/2009)
Drinking nicely now. 14.1% alcohol - just a bit of heat but OK. Raspberry, strawberry, slight red cherry. Some spice and earth. Good finish. Nice Siduri Pinot. (89 pts.)
  • 2006 Logan Chardonnay Sleepy Hollow Vineyard - USA, California, Central Coast, Monterey County (11/17/2009)
Not as good as some other Sleepy Hollow Chards (Arcadian). Some vanilla, citrus and white fruit. 14.5% alcohol. Had a bit of strange aftertaste - couldn’t really pin point it. (87 pts.)
  • 2006 Salva Tierra Cabernet Sauvignon - USA, California (11/17/2009)
Not complex but balanced. Not too oaky especially on the nose. 14.3% alcohol - gave very little heat. Lots of red fruits. Not a bad Napa Cab for the price. (86 pts.)
  • 2003 A Mano Primitivo Prima Mano Puglia IGT - Italy, Puglia, Puglia IGT (11/17/2009)
Agree with other notes — drink now. A bit of a disappointment from Garagiste. 14.5% alcohol. Black fruit - not spicy. viscous. Not a lot of oak. Just OK - a bit over the hill. Most at the table agreed this was the least enjoyable wine of the evening. (85 pts.)

Ted, did you do one of those Tuesday night prix fixe menus? I think we went every week in October, and Dave Kaplan has continued to carry the torch into November, although my travel schedule has gotten in the way of attendance lately. One of my favorite area BYOBs.

I think they have the prix fixe menus all week. Yes, that is what we did on Tuesday. And both Daves were there - as was Josh and others. Two groups that didn’t know each was going to be there. THE place to meet and greet.
