Updateā¦on its SIXTH day in a covered decanter (no refrigeration, but sitting in a reasonably cool kitchen), the wine is still drinking beautifully, and it is still aromatically interesting, if not evolving on the nose as it did on days one and two. I would not claim that the wine is at its peak today, but only that it opened fully on day two and then lost a bit of its acid edge, smoothed out and took on a little sweetness that was not there at first. I am beginning to wonder if the air trapped in a covered decanter is doing much to the wineā¦

I have an offer from a good source, which I trust itās provenance, to buy 2 bottles of 1971, and 1 bottle of 1974 (see in the picture), each for 170 Euros (the store is is Italy, I will pick up the wines from the store).
What do you think?

Before 1982, Vigna Rionda is only part of the name of the winery. The first single vineyard Massolino Vigna Rionda was made in 1982. So thatās a blend of Serralunga vineyards, Rionda, Parafada, ā¦

White Truffle & 1971 Nebbiolo Dinner (Chez Goldberg, Greenwich Village, NYC): [Double decanted at 4pm. Served about 9pm.] Sweet cherry nose. Long, rich and delicious in the mouth. I suspect this is mostly from Rionda. Excellent.

Was fun reading Bill in the old posts. We didnāt always get along, but that was true for many posters. He never lacked for opinion, but wrote well, and encouraged me to buy more Piemonte wines.
I loved his writing about Piedmont. I also love Mussolini VR so a good thread for me.
