Lots of great action on Preview Day yesterday, so thought I’d share some quick quote highlights from some of our favorite Berserkers who have enjoyed the wine glasses.
If you have any questions, comments, shenanigans to share, drop a note - we’re here all day!!
Damn it… said i was going exceptionally light on purchases this year…and then broke down the first thread i opened… Looking forward to the machine blown glasses i ordered… also thanks to all those that provided reviews
It’s funny how Berserker Day always goes like that. You should’ve seen what I bought yesterday alone despite all my best/worst intentions! Thanks for the order.
Hey @grovertrask - Yes, that’s correct. The machine-made is a pre-order. I kind of talked about it a little in my first comment yesterday but happy to share a little more.
The machine-made glasses are a very capital intensive endeavor (six-figures) with payment required before even I receive delivery. For a young independent business, it’s quite a big commitment. Not whinging about it all, because there are far more positives than negatives over the long-term.
Hope that adds a little context for you and anyone curious about why that’s a pre-order right now.
The pre-orders REALLY help Fontaine hit the ground running.
Appreciate the support!
(PS: If you do want something quick, the hand-mades ship will ship immediately. Like literally today if you get your order before 2pm Pacific.)
If you decide to purchase more items later today, also email and we can merge shipments.
If you ordered yesterday and want to merge your shipments or even add items and have everything ship together, also email!
Thank you!
I had a lot of requests last year to split shipping automatically so thought I’d try that this year… Live and learn. Every year Berserker Day is different!!
@Rob_Winn - do you mean that as in the actual prices of the products changed when you tried to checkout or is that a comment on the cost of shipping itself? Would love to help, just want to clarify the issue first.
@Rob_Winn Thanks for sharing your concerns. I totally get that shipping costs are important and increase the cost of your purchase.
If you don’t mind, I’ll share some context…
For a single 6-pack anywhere in the USA theStandard shipping is my cost (update, I’m now realizing it’s actually a dollar cheaper. See screenshot below.). Or if you go for Expedited, it’s below my cost, because I want to add some extra value to offset the price… For the Berserker Day special of any order over $199 that includes the free upgrade to Express shipping, it is currently costing me $10 or more per order.
My products don’t have “artificial margin” to account for shipping costs, either. For me personally, and a personal preference is all it is, I’d rather price my European made products as extremely competitive as I can (to set a benchmark for what I believe is the fairest pricing) and then charge market-price shipping. In past experiences working with other D2C business, inflating product margins to pad for shipping and then not charging (or even undercharging) for shipping, almost always results in a net-loss for the customer.
There are other factors like that carrier costs increased 5 to 8% this year which I have zero control over. The glasses are also both fairly large in size plus need extra padding for protection.
Again, not trying to complain and shake my fist in the air like a curmudgeon here. Just want to share a little behind the scenes of running a small business trying its best to share some of the best glassware in the world.
edits for clarity, screenshot, and trying not to sound whiny
Happy to see you here and another big thanks to you and @CFu for giving me the kick in the pants I needed to shorten the wine stem a little bit.
It was a small adjustment but the hand-feel and balance of the wine glasses is really dialed in as @brigcampbell and others have mentioned. We’ve even earned the “@ToddFrench Swirl of Approval”
