Flash Round: NYE appetizers you can make after coming home from work at 10pm

I have one night to prep NYE apps.
I have one idea in mind which I will execute. Truffled Chicken Liver Deviled Eggs

What else might you suggest since I’ve been getting home at 10:30pm and waking at 5am to go to work? I have one night left.

Considering you have little time on your hands, here’s a few ideas:

Stuffed Peppadews.
Found these at Cost Plus. Fill with Goat Cheese and top w chives.
Marilyn Sherman brought these (pictured) to my home for a party and they were great! The peppadews are smoky and spicy, but not hot (good combo with the goat cheese). Also, they are cute:

in addition:

Stuffed Mushrooms.

Papaya wrapped in Prosciutto (balsamic optional)

Burrata drizzled with olive oil

Ceviche/seafood salad on endive

Good luck and Have a Happy New Year!! [cheers.gif]

make polenta that morning before work and chill on a cookie sheet, 3/4 inc thick. When you get in cut into squares and sauté mushrooms then put atop the polenta and drizzle with white truffle oil

make a foccacia earlier. use any of the toppings you could imagine not limited to: roasted peppers and onion, olive oil and kosher salt, sun dried tomatoes olives and capers. cut and serve room temp

Its early. let me think of more after coffee

Figs stuffed with pate.

Dates wrapped in Serrano and/or prosciutto.

Small tub of “creeme freesh” (to quote South Park) mixed with some sturgeon roe; serve the best chips you can splurge on alongside.

Yeah, hit the 7-11 on the way home… [snort.gif]

Or just tweak a jar of Ragu marinara sauce with a bit of Stoli and serve it as vodka sauce; serve it with homemade grissini from a bag. Semi-homemade baby! neener [middle-finger.gif]

Jules stuffs a date w a pecan wraps w prosciutto and pops in a medium oven. Those things fly at parties

Make crab cakes tonight chill and fry them tomorrow

If you have a grill, do frenched lamb lollypops using giada’s marinade.

Trader joes jalapeño hummus w naan or pita

Thaw some king crab legs serve chilled w homemade cocktail sauce

Filet mignon…coat w oil and some Montreal or other peppery steak seasoning, sear to get a crust but still raw in middle. Chill but dont seal in plastic or the meat will sweat off its coating while you are at work. Slice and serve cold w creamy horseradish.

Some duck rillette or pate w cornichones and mustard and good baguette makes itself

Ditto good cheeses and baguette.

For a family nye party we got good bagels, lox, pastrami, corned beef, turkey, bermude onion, tomato, capers, creme cheeses etc. And we set up with a cheap toaster oven where folks made their own.

Good luck. Don’t stress

this one always gets raves:

Crabbies
1 stick butter, softened
1 can crab, drained
1 jar Kraft Old English Cheese Spread
1 tsp mayonnaise
garlic powder

mix and spread over English muffin halves, cutting each English muffin half into 4 more pieces.
Bake on cookie sheet till golden brown and bubbling. Serve immediately.

I’m sorry I didn’t see this sooner. The brick of cream cheese smothered with jalapeno jelly is always a big hit. rolleyes

Had it been me I would have made a smoked salmon cheesecake a couple of days before but I understand why that might not have been an option. Tell us what you went with. I’m curious.

A wedge of Humboldt Fog.
A wedge of Fiscalini San Joaquin Gold.
Truffled chicken liver mousse deviled eggs.

The eggs were a huge hit and went very well with the Vilmart Rubis. I topped them with a very fine slice of scallion and a flake or two of Murray River Sea Salt.

Ricca, you used the wrong serving piece for the eggs. This one doubles as a handy carrier.

Which Gravner… did you drink?

Josko ~ though I don’t recall the vintage. A friend brought it.

I am very familier with the Gravner line… I was just curious in the vintage.
