Have you heard of Chateau Josseme? Any opinions/thoughts?
sorry don’t know them
Paul, the only La Tour Blanche that I have tried were the 2001 and 2003. Both were excellent. I think highly of the 2009 vintage and would probably pull the trigger myself. I am not had any wines from Jean Faure.
I like the Jean Faure. Shows its Cab Franc profile quite well.
Thanks! Any preference between 19 and 20?
I only know 19 of the two, it is is really good

Bel Air La Royère is a top Blaye and a little gem. But the price seem a bit high .If the vintage is good, go for it!
Jean Faux Reserve 2019 is very nice and easy to enjoy.
Thank you Thomas, I have access to the the 2019 and 2020 Chateau Bel Air La Royere. Any preference?
It is the same price at the winery actually. I was not aware of that. I did not taste them but both vintages are great.
I tasted the second wine in 2020 and it was very decent and pleasable.
Thank you!

To be completely transparent, I would forgo the leftfield stuff and grab one of the older Bordeaux, like the 86 Meyney or the 75 or 86 La Lagune. There is no greater expression of Bordeaux than one of the excellent wines with age on them.
Tim, thanks, appreciate your honesty and most likely that’s what’s gonna happen. As of now only left field stuff like the belle vue–that comes at around ± €10 (hard to say no at that price)–will stay, but most of it will go. As for something with proper age, I hear you, however, that’s for another purchase or a restaurant visit. I will do a call with my merchant next week, will keep you posted.
Hi Paul,
You would get much better wine if you were willing to spend 30-35 Euros. Some of my favourites in this range are Chateau Fombrauge, Chateau Tronquoy, Chateau Sociando Mallet, and Le Sirene de Giscours. If you want to go in the 20 E range, maybe look at Chateau D’Aighuile, Chateau Les Grands Chenes.
I would highly recommend checking out this page: Bordeaux 40 under 40
For white wines, maybe try Chateau Carbonnieux or Chateau Larrivet Haut Brion.
Hi Stefan, thanks for this and the link. To some of your recommendations I don’t have access, unfortunately, whereas others exceed my budget. Some of them are already included in my purchase list or the list of all the recommended wines from this thread (May 19 post). I will add Chateau Les Grands Chenes to the left bank recommendations. I am pretty much set on my list from Jun 13 for my first purchase, since a lot of berserkers honed that list. However, I have to stall the purchase for a while. I will update here once I purchased the wines and sampled them. This might take some time, though.
Still didn’t get around to purchase a case of BDX, but I sampled these three Bordeauxs:
past its prime imho
bland and uninteresting
the 2015 lanessan was incredible, however. this worked pnp and had so much tension. great acidity, gripping but not drying tannins and tons of iodine and salt on the finish. performed well across four days. thanks for introducing me to this producer!!
also, on another note, can someone help me figure out white wine from the rhone? I’m looking for something more exotic both nose and palate. not afraid of a little residual sugar either. thread recommendations are appreciated. (also, happy to delete this, since it doesn’t pertain to BDX)
This was good but felt too much like a chard.
Don’t forget Capbern. Excellent quality, excellent value. I bought a six pack of the 2020 en primeur, and I normally don’t do this
Another two bdx tns:
A very disappointing second wine of leoville-barton from coravin. Overpriced and felt oxidized but that might be my lacking bdx knowledge
And a great bottle of 2016 Château Fourcas-Borie - CellarTracker
It is astonishing to me how little one needs to pay for such a great and somewhat aged wine
If it seemed oxidized, I suspect Coravin was the culprit. I had a bottle of that wine last year and it was pretty good.
That’s what I thought, so I asked for a glass from another bottle. Initially, this smelled fresher but then exhibited the same strong notes of red beets.
