Hi everyone, and thanks for including me here on WB.
I’m Jesse, the winemaker behind Copper Bear Wines. We’re a tiny, family-run project (<500 cases) based around small-lot Cabernet (mostly Beckstoffer fruit) and a couple of fun micro-releases each year. I’ve been a longtime lurker and finally decided it was time to jump in instead of just reading everyone else’s tasting notes and battles.
I’m here mostly to learn, share what I can from the winemaking side, and connect with folks who obsess over the same stuff I do. I hope to participate in BerserkerDay this year and looking forward to joining the chaos.
As soon as i started reading your post i assumed you would be participating in Berserker Day, but appreciate you starting to engage with all of us. Hopefully you stick around…as it seems like many first-time Berserker Day winemakers dissappear after the day is done
Jesse, not the method for potential inclusion in BerserkerDay…
Feel free to hang around as we love winemakers here, and if you wish to be considered as a ‘Newbie’ on BerserkerDay 18 (as BerserkerDay 17 potential Newbies are already in process) email me and I’ll put you on the list for the process next BerserkerDay (which will be 2027)
Welcome and so glad to have you here! I just picked up my first bottle of Copper Bear (2023 Beckstoffer cab) from ACME fine wines in Napa. Karen highly recommended it
I ordered some of your Fall releases. One question I had was around the industry side. What does a winemaker for Beckstoffer do? My assumption would be the winemaker would purchase fruit from Beckstoffer. Where do you get involved with projects?
Hi Mike- I work on client wines, private labels, and special projects for Andy. It’s a very unique job that I really enjoy. Appreciate you ordering some wines!
If there are multiple winemakers involved in a project, what does the collaboration work on? Are you working on different phases of production or coming up with an integration of different approaches?
