I was not expecting either this new development, nor this shipment to arrive today as it has been sitting in Stockton for two days and was rescheduled for tomorrow. I just happened to be home.
The delivery woman told me demanding pix of IDs started today. She took a photo of the back of my license. I told her she would have to pay to see my ID and got no reaction.
This will no doubt add another minute or two to alcohol deliveries, just what they needed!!!
For the first time I was asked to show my ID to a FedEx driver a couple of weeks back but he didn’t take a picture. Thought it was weird as I am decades closer to retirement than graduating college. I thought it was just a new driver (we haven’t had a regular for a few years now).
Surprised that there was a time when the didn’t ask for ID at a FedEx store. Really quite a different situation from a delivery made to one’s home.
I received a FedEx wine delivery last week and again this week. No signature, no knock or ring, just left by the front door. My UPS guy leaves wine deliveries in the shade by my garage door.
Yes! The same thing happened to me in MD today with FedEx. I thought it was very strange. I had to go to retrieve my ID and the driver took a picture of the back of my drivers license. Earlier this week they dropped a wine package off without even a signature.
I would imagine they would request an ID for any box at the store. Many people coming to one place, it seems like a good idea to prevent reverse porch bandits.
I’ve not had anything sent to a store, so is this just for alcohol?
I only use the FedEx store for wine because they require a signature for it and I hate sitting around the house waiting for the driver. I get a text saying my box is in and I have five days to pick it up. I have everything else shipped to my door because they’ll just leave it.
What would have caused this kind of policy change? Surely FedEx leadership wouldn’t want it, because it’s going to slow down drivers when they want them to speed up. Did some government agency threaten them or something?
Could be risk management policy . . . if there’s concern drivers aren’t properly checking IDs when they deliver there’s potential liability for company and risk of having license to ship/deliver wines pulled. Taking a photo confirms that the driver saw the license and, if it shows anything other than >21, that the driver needs some remedial reading training.
