Favorite pairing with Smoked Salmon?

OK, Salmon galore coming out of the Columbia right now, and found a new little shop in town that is smoking them with Cherry wood. So f’n good! So I’ve had recently with both a Baumard Savennieres and a Waters Rose, in both cases I thought it went very well, probably better with the Rose. So what are your favorite pairings with Smoked Salmon as I can see myself eating a lot of this the next few weeks…

Are there some shops your way that can/will ship this out? I would love to order some!

Rose sounds like the answer, and am thinking that an Edith Rose would be a great match

I can ask if they ship, but they are such a small little operation I’m doubtful on it. When my wife went over there yesterday, they just pulled it off the smoker and stuck it in a zip-lock it was so fresh. But I know they do vacuum seal some of it.

I haven’t had an Edith Rose in some time, one of the few I don’t get in my allocation. I’ll have to track one down and try it, but I thought the Syrah/Viognier blend of the Waters Rose worked really well…

I always think Champagne.

Are they salted and smoked?

We do planked salmon all the time w young Oregon Pinot. Why would smoked be different I wonder?

I like vermentino.

I’m thinkin Pinot Noir based Rose’?

The ones I’m getting don’t appear to be seasoned at all, at least not that I can tell. They are smoked with Cherry Wood that is supposedly from organic orchards, FWIW…

Favorite pairing? Poppy seed bagels, Philly Cream Cheese and sweet onions.

Ooooh, Maggie just gave me a bottle of her Antica Terra Rose…might just have to crack that open with the next batch… [cheers.gif]

Big +1 … perhaps even a rose.

Otherwise perhaps a Sauvignon Blanc or Chenin Blanc

Scott,

What’s the name of the shop? We’re coming down there for a few days and I was going to get some smoked salmon up here, but will wait until we arrive based on this.

As far as wine goes, I can eat smoked salmon and drink Pinot Noir all day.

Yes!!! With Champagne.

White Rhones and Loires, Sparklers, and Rose. Have Alberty hook you up with some misc Rose.

When in doubt I use a bubbliy

Champagne works so very well with so many things including smoked salmon.

But if you like a good Gewurztraminer, from Alsace in particular then it is also worth considering and, at a few paces removed, an Alsatian Pinot Gris. Other Alsation whites would probably do fine job too.

Many Loire whites [from Melon de Bourgogne, Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc] from the Nantais through the Touraine to Menetou-Salon, Sancerre and Pouilly will also work.

I have never tried a rose with smoked salmon but there are so many that there will be some at least that would work well.

I’d drink a rosé Champagne or a rich Provençal rosé with smoked salmon.

+1 on the Champagne here. [cheers.gif]

Pinot-dominated Champagne.
