Family friendly birthday dinner suggestions in San Francisco

Hello.
We will be spending a night in SF this June which will happen to be my wife’s birthday. We will have kids in tow, 10yo picky eater and 12yo who will eat anything. Just curious if there are any excellent options. Doesn’t have to be too fancy but ok if it is. My kids are (fairly) well behaved in restaurants but one is pretty picky and survives on hamburgers/chicken nuggets/steaks/pasta etc.
We don’t know where we are staying yet but that is flexible. I bet we’ll be in the more tourist driven areas.
Any suggests much appreciated.

Zuni cafe might be an option. I would tend towards Asian recommendations in sf but that might not work for you guys.

Yup, honestly Zuni does look good for us, thanks!
Wine list is pretty cool too.

I’m game for Asian, but unfortunately no one else really is, and that will be a big veto for my wife’s birthday

How about Foreign Cinema…they have a kids menu and movies.

Gott’s at the ferry building is probably a good place to stop for lunch too.

Cool spot! Thanks

It’s a cool spot for sure; it is in the mission so could be interesting walking around at night. I haven’t been there in a few years, interesting scene though.

Not sure I need anything “interesting” at night with the kiddos!

Yeah I feel fine walking around the mission, Castro, tenderloin, soma, w/e at night but wouldn’t do it with my daughter.

Both Zuni and FC are on main drags. Even still, Not walking anywhere from either with young children, but as you say have done it with my wife a bunch.

Why wouldn’t you just Uber to any restaurants door, not the time to be searching for parking or walking back to the hotel.

This is probably what will happen. Don’t plan on driving and we’ll be walking earlier in the tourist areas so probably won’t walk to dinner. (I don’t think)

Flour + Water might fit the bill. For my tastes it’s still worth a visit. Had a very nice meal there when we visited last year. And there’s always a margherita pizza on the menu for the picky eater.

Get a Waymo, kids would get a kick out of the lack of driver thing

SF is the only city where I’ve actually been in an accident in an uber and have had the most questionable uber drivers, so Waymo is likely a good option.

Thanks, I’ll look into this too

You would think Margherita would be a “win,” but with this kid real mozzarella is “too creamy” so he’d end up just eating the crust.
He did survive italy though. Just needed 1 night of scratch kitchen nuggels (from a Michelin listed kitchen no less) and otherwise did fine.

All these restaurant recs look amazing. Great wine lists too.
Thanks so much. Happy to review any more that people think about but these look so appealing may have to stay an extra night in town

If you’re down in the Marina, Radhaus is a lot of fun, especially for lunch and scenery.

Zuni is a good choice. Also look at Perbacco.

Glad to see Foreign Cinema recommended already. They are great with kids. Kids can get a 3 course meal which is fun for them and I appreciate that it makes them feel like they are part of the fine dining experience even if they might be having buttered noodles for their main.

+1 for Zuni. Can’t beat it. And if you go for lunch (my favorite) you can get their pizza, which is excellent.
Regardless, their shoestring fries are guaranteed to be a hit with the kids.
