Falkenstein Rieslings - mind-bogglingly complex, cerebral, delicious and most importantly budget friendly wines!

PRESALE **– Wines are in the USA and arrive out our store in early July. Please send your wish list to info@winesolutions.com. While we expect to receive plenty of each wine, we may have to allocate. Ask for what you want, and we will get back to you with your allocation. **

Some of best Riesling for the money in the world comes from the Saar which is part of the Mosel and more specifically from Hofgut Falkenstein. If you know these wines, they are mind-bogglingly complex, cerebral, delicious and most importantly budget friendly wines!

We are pleased and honored to offer the Hofgut Falkenstein wines again for the 6th vintage in a row. The popularity of Falkenstein wines is at the highest that we have ever seen. While we are still in the early days on pricing, we see them increasing each year some until that point where they really get noticed and prices skyrocket. These wines are so underpriced for the quality in the bottle, making them by far one of the best bargains available from any wine region!

Our friends that import these wines have had to fight tooth and nail to maintain their allocations as the secret is out. It is great they were in early on these, so we tend to do ok and in 2022 we got almost everything we wanted. Of the below wines the AP11, AP11 mags, AP22 Mia and AP 23 rose trocken will be the most limited. ALSO, the Pinot Noir is back, the Spatburgunder is here from the excellent 2022 vintage where the grape excels in these vintages. Also, a new offering of cider is available as well.

Lars Carlberg, Hofgut Falkenstein (1/28/24) :
“The Weber family farms about 13 hectares in a side valley of the Saar known as Konzer Tälchen. All the grapes are hand-harvested (including those grapes, mostly from young vines, that are sold in bulk to the local co-op). The Riesling grapes are gently pressed whole bunch, and their musts are left overnight to settle naturally, before being racked and fermented with ambient yeasts in 1,000-liter Fuder casks (Fuderfässer) and a couple of 500-liter Halbfuder, the traditional fermenting and aging vessels for Mosel wine.

Most of their vineyards are located on various south-facing slopes, including Niedermenniger Herrenberg—listed as “Zuckerberg” on Franz Josef Clotten’s 1868 Saar und Mosel Weinbau-Karte—and the once highly rated Euchariusberg. The soil is primarily iron-rich gray slate, with some quartz and quartzite-bearing sandstone, along with diabase intrusions in the choice western flank of Krettnacher Altenberg (called Silberberg in the mid-20th century). The father-and-son team of Erich and Johannes Weber don’t use herbicides and believe in low yields—just one short “flat” or non-arched cane (Flachbogen) per vine—to produce an array of dry (trocken), off-dry (feinherb), and fruity Saar wines, which represent true cask-by-cask bottlings."

The offering to us this year for the 2023s is the same as last year, place and order and see what gets filled - again last year we got almost all but a few bottles of what we wanted (the rose was the only limited wine as that was a first for our market, and well you know how weird people get about new rose wines). Again, I will collect orders and then place an order. We will then receive our allocation and I will allocate as needed. What I ask of you is to please send me your order request and I will allocate where needed based on buying history of these wines with us. Don’t hold back, if you want a case each, say so. If you want 4 cases of on the AP 11, say so. Demand has never been higher for these wines, so I can’t guarantee we get everything but we will certainly do our best. Remember, I want to sell every single bottle I can of these, so let’s get at it – fire away!
