Faiveley and Drouhin holdings?

I don’t think the inclusion or not of non-owned fruit is an issue which should affect the decision to purchase at all.
Drouhin work extremely closely with their suppliers, insisting on exactly the same standards that they apply to their own fruit, which is why in recent years several notable bottlings have been discontinued.

In the case of the Bonnes Mares or Beze I wouldn’t worry either. But I’ve found some of their all negociant offerings to be mediocre in the past (e.g., Chambertin).

I sell Faiveley in the Ontario market and can only speak about them.

All their negociant bottlings are labeled Joseph Faiveley and all the wines that they own are labeled Domaine Faiveley.

As someone previously said, Faiveley bought quite a bit of land over the last few decades. Now I would consider them less of a negociant than what is perceive.

Dennis,
Jasper says he is working on the book. By the time he is done maybe bookstores will be open.

Yes, lockdown is helping me catch up on the book, zooms notwithstanding.

These are the domaine figures which I currently have, but will verify them again before publication. Hectares rather than acres, and doesn’t differentiate between different members of the family owning individual plots. The definition of domaine is either ownership or ‘fermage’ (rental) which happens more often than you might think, where the ‘exploitant’ of the vineyard has it under contract from the owner, who may or may not be a family member.
Noe also that some wines may not be declared as domaine because they are a blend of a small holding (eg Clos de Beze) with purchased fruit

Jasper Morris,
I am working on a book to be called ‘Health Tips from Rush’…why cigar smoking is actually good for you but only when you are drinking high end Scotch, Bourbon or Cognac.

I am hoping Trump will order a re opening of all bookstores, if only so I can buy your next book. I have them all.

Excellent info, thank you Jasper.

Looks like Faiveley has enough Cazetiers to make an interesting luxury cuvée.

Thank you for info Jasper!

That would be some exotic oak, I’m sure.

Jasper, thank you so much for the information. Needless to say, I’m eagerly awaiting the revision of your book!

Jasper, noticed one missing piece of the Faiveley jigsaw puzzle…

Domaine Chazan/Zibetti – (0.12 ha) (Domaine Faiveley in fermage)…from Winehog article

Faiveley does make an Amoureuses bottling. Presumably this is the source?

And Mel Knox, by the time Jasper finishes his book, there may not be physical bookstores anymore unless the quarantine is lifted soon!

Dennis,

Yes, Faiveley have indeed made a small bottling of Amoureuses for quite a while. It may depend on the nature of the agreement as to whether or not they can call it Domaine. They were not able to declare the Matrot Wittersheim holdings as domaine, when they had that contract, because the arrangement was for Faiveley to run the vineyards and then to buy the grapes.

Dennis
I am writing “ Health Tips from the White House” …it s being underwritten by Lysol so I am sure the bookstores will be open soon!
